Historic Cubbon Park is Bengaluru’s central green lung and home to many prominent landmarks, including the High Court buildings and the magnificent granite Vidhana Soudha – the legislative chambers of Karnataka State.
Established in 1870, Cubbon Park was designed as a public park with lawns, wide tree-lined avenues and well laid-out walking paths. It was planted extensively with both indigenous and exotic species of flowering trees and shrubs, and its landscaped gardens include a rose garden, a bamboo grove, a lotus pond and a dancing musical fountain.
When you visit Cubbon Park, take time to see the many other tourist attractions within the park. Check out Venkatappa Art Gallery, then see India’s second largest aquarium before heading to the Bal Bhavan amusement park, which has a toy train ride, a doll museum and a children’s fairground.
With its prime position in the heart of Bengaluru, Cubbon Park has many hotels nearby. Towards Freedom Park, Kempegowda Metro and Bengaluru City Junction Railway Station, you’ll find mostly budget hotels, some of which belong to popular low-cost chains like OYO Rooms and Treebo.
Alternatively, on the park’s eastern flank – particularly along Vittal Mallya Road and Residency Road – you’ll find luxurious accommodation from global hotel groups like Luxury Collection, Ritz-Carlton and Marriott.
To base yourself in the buzz of Bengaluru’s main commercial area, head to the M.G. Road, particularly at the intersection with Brigade Road, one of the busiest shopping and dining areas in the city. Here, you can book affordable and mid-range accommodation. A little further along M.G. Road towards Trinity Circle, you’ll find more high-end hotels.
The southern end of Cubbon Park is close to Krishnarajendra Market, an excellent place to get a taste of local life and colour. Nearby, Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace is a fine example of Indo-Islamic architecture, while the Lalbagh Botanical Gardens, a bit further south, offers some peace and quiet after a day in the city.
Book a hotel near Cubbon Park for a relaxing base for your Bengaluru adventures.
