About this property
Cabin Located in a Birding and Fishing Paradise
Do you want to have your morning coffee and watch the sun come up while sitting on the front porch in the swing or the rockers or lounging on the large deck in the backyard listening to the birds sing; away from the noises of city life, traffic and stress? Then this is the place for you. . Our Wakulla Springs Retreat is located on 5 secluded acres of hardwood trees off the beaten track but close to the Tallahassee-St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail (15 miles of a beautiful paved bicycle corridor), Wakulla Springs State Park, the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, the Apalachicola National Forest, the San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park in the town of St. Marks at the confluence of the beautiful St. Marks and Wakulla rivers, the Felburn Foundation Playground with covered picnic tables and a fabulous array of playground equipment. There are several excellent seafood restaurants close by so you don’t have to spend your time cooking. Only 3 miles from the Retreat is Savannah’s (home of the famous $2.00 breakfast and a great country buffet at lunch and dinner).
The fenced backyard is a perfect place for approved pets and the bike trail provides a great place to take your pet on a leisurely shaded stroll. Before we approve your pet, we must know your pet's breed, age and size and if he/she will be on good behavior if you have to leave him/her alone in the Retreat? A pet fee of $25 will be charged upon approval. Our concern is that your pet is safe and so is our Retreat.
There are many recreational opportunities abundantly throughout Florida's Forgotten Coast, known as the 'sportsman's paradise', including Salt & Freshwater fishing, hiking, bicycling, hunting and canoeing. Also, convenient access to the Gulf of Mexico is just minutes away in St. Marks.
No matter what your taste may be, whether it's flats fishing for trout, redfish, tarpon, or Spanish mackerel, or just a few miles out some of the finest grouper fishing in the Gulf of mexico, this is truly an angler's paradise, with every salt water activity you care to do, such as snorkeling for scallops, scuba diving to see some of the most beautiful natural reefs, or just a lazy day with the family at the coast.
We have plenty of room for boaters to bring their boats to the Retreat. There are several public and private boat ramps within 15 minutes of the Retreat, giving you access to the Gulf of Mexico and local rivers.
Downtown Tallahassee and Florida State University are only 15 miles from the Retreat and Wakulla Springs State Park (home of one of the largest and deepest freshwater springs in the world) is only 6 miles from the Retreat.
If the Wakulla Springs Retreat is booked during the dates you want it, please see our sister site, St. Marks Retreat, VRBO site #63806, on the St. Marks River.
Guest Testimonials
We celebrated the New Year with our family as the first guests at Wakulla Springs Retreat. We enjoyed the peace and quiet for the week. It certainly helps to remember what is really important in life when things slow down a bit.
Ashley, Jessie and family. Sugar Land, TX
We had a wonderful experience exploring this section of “old Florida”.
Highlights: Boat ride and Wakulla State Park – alligators, manatees, many birds. Highly recommend this tour
Captain Mike McNamara in the town of St. Marks will provide a comprehensive boat tour of the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. From his boat, we were able to photograph many birds, most notably, the Bald Eagle, both perched and in flight. Porpoises visited and followed the boat. Mike is also a fishing guide.
Walking path around the ponds at the light house in the Refuge: Many waterfowl, most notably, Redheads and American Wigeon.
Posey’s Seafood Restaurant on the waterfront in Panacea-very good
Visitor’s Center in the Refuge has maps and books available.
We had a great stay- saw and photographed more than 45 different bird species.
Thanks for your hospitality!

This cabin offered everything we needed. Loved the location and the privacy it offers. It was very well stocked. If you forget something, chances are they have it there!
We had a great stay here while in town for the Florida State game. It is a quiet and cozy property with a short drive to Tallahassee. The house has many amenities and lots of space. It was perfect for everything we needed, highly recommend!!
Another wonderful stay! Great place, clean & great yard for a pup! If you’re lucky, you just might catch a glimpse at the deer walking in the driveway early morning!
We loved it so much we stayed 3 months. We were able to relax and enjoy nature around us - the birds, the squirrels, and the deer. We finished a couple of nagging projects that never got done at home. Carolyn was a perfect host, available but not intrusive
We stayed here for my daughter’s graduation weekend. It was close to Tally, without being in all the noise and hustle & bustle. We were able spread out, bar b que, and relax. Appointed with everything we needed. I highly recommend this for a home base for school events or just a nice getaway.
Ms Carolyn and Floyd were great hosts and coordination from them was great ! The place was nice and clean ! Peaceful, woodsy andsecluded , has neighbors in the distance! The hosts checked on us for arrival and we spoke to them on departure, friendly and just good folks ! We will definitely book with them again !
P.S. the fur babies also loved the fenced back yard and bbq area !
We had to evacuate from our coastline central Florida home, facing a Cat 4 hurricane. We found the retreat here and it was heaven. The home was clean and comfortable. The yard and grounds were so enjoyable. We asked to meet our host, Carolyn because she was so gracious and kind. The stay became more a “vacation “, rather than a nerve wrecking event. We can’t wait to go back and stay longer and enjoy more of the area! The home is also well equipped with many of your needs.
This is one of the most charming cabins we have ever stayed in, carefully and beautifully decorated, very cozy, and clean. The cabin is also very spacious, comfortable, and well equipped (kitchen!). Unlike in many short rental places, all the necessities and beyond were provided. We brought our two dogs, and they loved the wooden deck and fenced backyard. This cabin is greatly located, the neighborhood itself is pretty, green, and quiet. The best was the proximity to all hikes in state parks and wildlife refuges, of which Wakula Springs State Park, Lake Talquin State Forest and St Marks National Wildlife Refuge were the most stunning. We strongly recommend the cabin and the destination, and especially to those who travel with their beloved animals.
Carolyn was fantastic! She communicated with us early and often and made sure everything was to our liking. During the 15 years that we have vacationed in Florida, we have never had a host that did as much as Carolyn. The property is clean and well cared for and offers a Tremendous amount of peace and quiet and so close to Tallahassee. The home is a little small for the number of people that it would accommodate. The property is adjacent to the Tallahassee Saint Marks, bike trail and offers great biking opportunities.

When we turned down the sheets to go to bed in the master bedroom there was a cockroach!!! Also, the rug and furniture had long white pet fur on it which after contacting the owner was vacuumed up. Should have had her vacuum entire cabin in retrospect. She offered to. There were also bugs/roaches in bottom kitchen cabinets. Several dishes were not cleaned properly by previous guests. Enjoyed the area and the quiet neighborhood. Owner was very friendly and accomodating.
The host was the best thing about this stay. She is very kind, helpful and prompt at communicating. She even went above and beyond by mailing my daughter's left stuffed animal back to her. Thank you!
The home was super clean and extremely neat and organized. The front and back porches were very inviting and peaceful. Loved the fenced in back yard, perfect for walking your pet or letting your little one run off some energy. Water pressure was great and the hot water lasted for both of our showers. We loved that this was off the road and we heard no noise besides nature.
We had a great time with the grandkids! The Marine Specimen Lab was a big hit and Wakulla springs never lets you down. The cabin was conveniently located and a really peaceful stay.
