Cranbrook Institute of Science

I was traveling with a friend. Her room was on the second floor and her experience was very different than mine. My room was on the 7th floor and smelled like sewer from the moment we stepped off the elevator. My bed sheets were stained. Maybe they were technically clean, but they were stained and should not have been used at all. My window was cracked open which I guessed was because of the smell but bugs were all over the shower floor as a result. I immediately contacted the front desk. Housekeeping was there to change the linens within ten minutes and blamed their linen service like it was a recurring issue. My comment was someone here had to put those sheets on the bed and ignored the large stain in the very center! No way to miss that gross stain! Bath towels were clean but scruffy, felt like they’d been at camp for 10 years. Not even a little bit fluffy. The smell was vaguely explained away by something to do with how all the appliances were connected but that smell was just musty, not backed up toilet! I was not offered a new room. Spent the night with the window open and was nose blind. Staff was fairly friendly but definitely won’t stay here again. The price was right and the location was walking distance to the Fox Theater where our concert was. Quick overnight because we’re old and didn’t want to drive home after the concert. No breakfast and no parking rounds out the reasons for not trying to stay here again.

Spacious clean rooms. Nice facility. Well maintained gardens. Courteous staff.

Everything was amazing except for the huge cockroach at the end of my visit and I had to check out in the middle of the night because of it
