Hire a Car at Antalya Airport (AYT)
The easiest way to travel to Antalya is to fly into Antalya Airport (AYT), which is located on the eastern outskirts of the city. This airport is one of the busiest in Turkey, because its location allows easy access to many of the most popular resort towns. It operates a number of scheduled and charter flights to and from destinations around Turkey and Europe, and is also home to several car rental agencies including Sixt, Budget and Hertz. From the airport, the city centre of Antalya is at most a 20-minute drive.
Rent a Car in Antalya
If you are not flying into Antalya Airport or you would prefer to hire a vehicle in the city, you will find plenty of car hire offices within Antalya itself. Car hire companies are located in several locations, with the majority clustered in the old quarter of Kaleici. Until you have acquired your rental vehicle, you can use the city buses and historic tramway to travel around the city. The public transport links may also be useful for sightseeing in the city centre, as parking can be difficult in the busiest areas of town.
Driving Around Antalya: Attractions in the City
Though the centre of the city can be tricky for driving, there are plenty of attractions on the outskirts of Antalya that are best reached by car. For example, the beautiful Duden Waterfalls are located about 20 minutes north of the centre. To the east of the city, around 25 minutes by car, is the resort of Lara Beach, where you can relax and soak up the sun in style. Families will also want to make time for the cluster of theme parks on the western edges of the city, Aktur Lunapark being among the most popular.
Natural Areas to be Explored Around Antalya
The region surrounding Antalya is filled with beautiful natural scenery, and the best way to see it all is by car. Start with a trip to Kursunlu Falls, just a 20-minute drive northeast of the city centre. From there, you can drive up to Koprulu Canyon, a national park where you can go white water rafting, wildlife-spotting, camping and hiking. The ancient city of Termessos can also be accessed from Antalya by car. Situated 24 miles northwest of central Antalya, this mountain-top city is surrounded by quiet forests and is fantastically well-preserved – it makes a magical and atmospheric spot for a day trip out of the city.
