Rescue animal farm
This farmhouse is in a rural area of Columbiaville with many varieties of animals wandering around! All very friendly! It sets way off the road and you have to manually open a gate to enter/ leave! The farmhouse beds are comfortable and plenty of room to sit for groups! There are no chairs around the bonfire so that was disappointing! Big front porch tho to sit on and watch the animals roaming around.

Good location for a getaway but a few caveats
Overall, the location was remote and quiet (what we had hoped for) and the house was spacious. The overall property was great and backs up to Holloway Reservoir. There were many things that were a bit rough around the edges, rougher than should be expected, like missing siding on the back of the house, chewed up and scratched doors and trim throughout, loose boards on the deck, etc., but it was expected to be a bit less refined and more rural, so it wasn’t a deal breaker. The animals milling about, specifically the goats (and the baby goat most of all) were our two girls favorite part of the whole weekend. The fireflies in the field behind the house was also wonderful. We had rented the property for my niece’s small wedding. We had hoped the barn would be done before hand (as Maurine had promised) but construction delays happen, so we made adjustments and it worked out in the end. The only real negative was miscommunication with Maurine around her bringing up additional fees we needed to pay the evening before we left (beyond the rental fees through VRBO, which we had paid on time and in full). It left a large mark on an otherwise wonderful weekend. Hopefully, that issue won’t happen with any future events that she hosts. Due to the miscommunications, we would definitely not be interested in renting this property again, but would say that it is good for a small group getaway.

Response from VrboOwner on 13 Sept 2023
It was unfortunate for all parties concerned regarding the miscommunications and misunderstandings. Phone numbers between VRBO owners and VRBO guests are not exchanged until a reservation is secured. After receiving your phone number I made several attempts to speak to you and clarify things. Communication was sketchy at best because one of us was traveling and in a bad cell area. There was also great distance between our areas and both of us were quite busy. Those issues may have hindered our communication. Certainly our conversation should have been followed by an email and contract. Please forgive me for being remiss in that. However, it is unfathomable to believe you can have a "small" event with 75 plus guests, 30+ cars, 2 portable bathrooms, a tent, tables and chairs , loud music into the night, a mechanical bull, three nights of MANY guest on and off of the property and generate enough trash to fill up more than a 5 yard dumpster, with NO additional compensation. Thank you for recommending that the property is better suited to small group getaways. Your advise is well appreciated.

Girls weekend
This was a huge house with three levels, there was 11 of us and we were never on top of each other. spent a lot of time on front porch and back deck. The animals were fun, one of the girls made a new friend with the Donkey. Host was great, and right there on property when you needed her. there is three bathrooms, one on each level. Really enjoyed our trip.

Wonderful Week
We stayed at the farm house for a week. The house is beautiful and very comfortable and clean. One of the previous guests left a bad review and stated it was dirty, it's a farm, bring some boots! It was a great experience to get to know the animals and learn their personalities, they looked forward to the carrots and sliced apples every day as much as we enjoyed treating them. So much work goes into caring for these sweet animals and Maurine does a great job, she even took time out to show our grandson the baby ducks. It was also just a short walk to the Holloway Reservoir where we had some luck with some nice size catfish. I'm thankful for the week we shared with the horses and goats! Thanks Maurine!

A magical farm and home.
We have stayed here multiple times and enjoyed every visit. A true farm experience; you can feed and spend time w/horses, goats, sheep and more. My son and his friends were in heaven interacting w/and feeding all the animals. We fished and canoed in the river bordering the property. Maurine is a wonderful host and a huge animal lover, whose farm is home to many injured and rescued creatures. Goats saved from auctions are living their best lives, roaming free, chomping hay and hanging out. Retired race horses graze in pastures, a blind pig, a goose who thinks he is a goat, a very elderly donkey, named Sassafras, and so many more reside here. The home is gorgeous, well-appointed and so welcoming. We love making meals in the huge kitchen, sleeping in the amazingly soft beds and listening to nature from the windows. All of this is not to say that you don't need good boots, the knowledge that barns/farms are messy and sometimes smelly places. The roosters crow loudly in the morning and the fences will always need painting. We discovered Maurine's farm during the pandemic and it has quickly become a happy place for our family. We hope other discover the magic we have felt here.

All the kids including the adults absolutely loved hanging out and petting all the animals. They were all really sweet. The kids would just run out the door and wonder around the farm. The adults enjoyed the large spacious kitchen and hanging out on the porch. Small little beach 6 min away and other cute towns for shopping and eating about 30-60 min away. We all definitely enjoyed our stay. The kids will hopefully remember and cherish this unique, fun and relaxing farm house vacation.

Country Horse Farm
We had a lovely time with friends. There was fishing, kyaking, antique shopping, going to the beach, s'mores around the fire pit, and horses, goats, a donkey, and several farm fowl on the property to enjoy watching and/or feeding. Inside the house we had plenty of seating. The kitchen had 2 ovens and an island for serving and seating. There was a small table for playing Euchre and a large dining table too. The house had two decks. I enjoyed coffee on the deck watching the animals in the morning. The view from the back deck was peaceful. I do wish there had been some shade on the back deck although the breeze was lovely. Overall, it was a fun place to get together.

The house is beautiful and comfortable and has all the amenities we needed to cook meals. Being on a farm with retired horses, sheep and goats was fun -- my daughters and mother all enjoyed feeding the horses with finger carrots. And Maurine explained everything and was very responsive to questions we had. We had a lovely two nights there.

Everything about our stay was pleasant and relaxing. The property adjoins county property with direct access to the river for fishing. The animals at the farm were enjoyable to watch, and even the ones that ran loose didn't interfere with the use of the yard for games and relaxing. We would definitely considering staying again.

Great family getaway
Our family had a wonderful stay at the property. My granddaughter enjoyed visiting the animals and the information provided about each of the animals was interesting to read. The house was beautiful inside and had many windows to look out to the pastures. There was plenty of space for all of us and we had numerous places to sit, hang out, and visit. It may not be the best as far as very young kids, my granddaughter is 1.5 years, but she did great….there are ALOT of antiques and things for her to LOOK at. I would also suggest bringing some boots to visit the animals outside…especially if it is wet. We are from a farm and we’re prepared; but the area can be a little muddy and messy as it had also rained recently. This is a very nice large home for a larger group with lots of space. We enjoyed the quiet, country location that was not too far from shops and restaurants.

Amazing place for an animal lover!
The farm is full of rescued horses, goats and a friendly sheep…plus cats! It is lovely sitting on the covered outdoor porch watching the animals or going for a walk to feed them some apples or carrots. Some of the horses were race horses and very interesting things to read in the basement level about their wins. Maureen made my granddaughters dream come true by leading her around a paddock on one of the horses. This was very much appreciated!

Great Farmhouse
We have stayed at multiple farm houses, and like the others this one does not disappoint. Once we got over the mess that VRBO made with our reservation, everything worked out great. It is a working horse farm with many horses, goats and sheep. The horses are great to watch from the covered porch, the sheep will keep an eye on you, and the goats will amuse. Brought the kayaks out back to the river, which was great fun. The dog loved to run in the fields and short trails in the back. Inside a good kitchen with most everything that you would need. Great history of horses throughout the large and open house. Highly recommend.

Had a wonderful experience staying at Maurine's farm! The best part was being there with all the horses and goats! Favorite time of the day was sitting on the porch in morning and enjoying a cup of coffee while watching the animals. The house is beautiful- felt like "Grandma's House," with all the decorations, personal touches, games and books. Very clean and roomy. The location feels remote, but is not too far from county parks and nearby towns. Definitely a memorable stay.

Thank you for a wonderful stay and the opportunity for our animals to interact with a lovely family. The animals always enjoy kind people who enjoy their silly antics, bring them treats and just hang out with them. Most of all, for all of us who work so hard to take care of the farm and the farm animals and the guests that stay, it is rewarding to leave a memorable impression on a great family. It helps us feel really appreciated. Thank you

Great for Girl Scout long weekend getaway!
Because of the pandemic, I'd been wracking my brain, trying to think of things the girls could do without danger of cancellation. Renting a house a short drive away - particularly one with animals walking the grounds - seemed ideal, and since everyone in attendance was vaccinated, it was the first time many of us could spend a sustained bit of time together, working on badges, playing games, talking walks, etc. The girls had a lovely time at Shamrock, and have asked to return next year, if possible!

A special place
We rented for a family gathering with guests from three states. All were there to attend a wedding in Clio. It was a perfect setting to gather, eat, enjoy chats on the breezy front porch or by the bonfire at night and to catch up like we used to do at out mom’s house before she had to downsize and move away. It felt very much like home but is a very welcoming way-not like we were invading someone else’s home. Maurine, the property owner, was awesome. She even went out and bought bubbles and water guns for the little ones to play with during our stay! The description was accurate and it was nice that the house was stocked with the basics like spices, sugar etc. we hope to gather again there for the next family event!

This place is about 30 minutes from Frankenmuth Michigan. Home is very nice on the inside. Was very clean. Furniture was nice. Interior decorated with lots of horse decor reflecting its horse farm heritage. Only thing we'd change is to bring some outdoor chairs to enjoy the outside porch. House has a very nice front porch however the back deck is closed due to repairs. The stars of the property are the animals. There are about 15 horses, 6 or 7 goats, a friendly sheep, a baby pig and two fantastic miniature horses. The animals are all friendly. The farm caretaker and her daughter were very friendly and showed us around the property and the animals. The home backs up to a county park that was fantastic with trails and a beautiful lake. Would stay again for sure.
