About this property

Tropical Lakefront Retreat with Private Dock & Kayaks

  • Lake vibes throughout this open floor plan home, including kitchen with island and breakfast bar. Comfy family room with deep relaxing couch, reclining chair and lake décor throughout. For your enjoyment the home has 3 big screen TVs, a pool table, 2 kayaks, a pedal boat and a fire pit. Amazing lake views from kitchen, family room and master bedroom . Bird feeders attract various species of birds. Fish right off the private dock and park your boat and other water toys on the water or in the spacious driveway. Enjoy the evening on the covered porch with a glass of wine, roasting marshmallows on the fire pit, or gazing at the stars on the hammock. Enjoy the many wineries nearby including Napa Valley only an hours drive away.

The property is located in the "Keys." It's an intricate maze of channels with homes on both sides. It's great for swimming off the dock, using the paddle boat and kayaks as boats can only go as fast as 5 miles per hour in the Keys. During the summer months, June/July/August it can reach 100 degrees in Clearlake. Often when it gets really hot, algae can bloom, it can change the color of the lake water and have a film on top. Swimming in the water when algae is present is not recommended. If you have a boat, you can take it to the open lake where algae is normally not present. You can swim in those deeper waters with no problem.

Also, certain times of the year, generally in the summer, "rice flies" can appear in the evening. They are harmless and support the eco system of the lake, but they are a nuisance if they get inside the house. They generally will gravitate towards light and the ceiling. They live 24 hours and die overnight. We do not have any control over these natural occurrences at the lake. Please make sure to research Clearlake to learn a little more about this natural lake that has existed for millions of years:

Clear Lake in Lake County, California, the lake is very old—roughly 2.5 million years old by some geological estimates.

It’s considered the oldest continuously existing lake in North America. Its unusual longevity is partly because the lake sits in a tectonically active basin that has continued to collect water and sediment rather than disappearing.

    So, roughly:

Clear Lake: ~2.5 million years old
    Location: Lake County, Northern California
Often described as North America’s oldest continuously existing lake

    About Rice Flies:

-They look like mosquitoes, but most rice flies/midges do not bite or suck blood. -- -They can be annoying because they swarm around lights, windows, cars, and buildings.
    - They come from the lake. Their larvae live in the lake sediments and feed on organic material and microorganisms. When adults emerge, huge numbers can appear around the shoreline.
    - “Rice fly” is a local/common name, rather than necessarily the scientific name of one particular species. Clear Lake has several species of aquatic insects that can contribute to these seasonal swarms.
-They're actually important to the ecosystem. Their larvae and adults provide food for fish, birds, bats, and other wildlife.
    - Weather, water temperature, wind, and lake conditions can all influence when and how intensely they emerge.
