Find hotels in Chongsan from £26

The best area to stay in Chongsan is the village centre, particularly around the main pier, as it offers the most convenient access to amenities and transport.

This central area is where you'll find the majority of the island's guesthouses, local eateries, and shops. It's the hub for ferries arriving from the mainland, making it incredibly practical for arrivals and departures. The main street, which runs parallel to the coastline, is easy to navigate and provides a good sense of the local community.

Couples looking for a relaxing getaway will appreciate staying here. It's a great base for exploring the island's walking trails, such as the famous Slow Road, which often starts or passes through the village. You'll find charming cafes and restaurants superb for enjoying a quiet evening after a day of exploring.

For those interested in local culture and convenience, staying in the village centre is ideal.

The best time to visit Chongsan is during the spring (April to May) or autumn (September to October) when the weather is mild and pleasant.

Spring is particularly lovely for experiencing the island's natural beauty. The entire island comes alive with the vibrant yellow of canola fields, especially noticeable along the 'Slow Road' walking paths. The Chongsan Jindo Sea Parting Festival, a unique event where the sea dramatically "parts" to reveal a land bridge, typically occurs in late spring, offering a memorable cultural experience. This period is ideal for couples and solo travellers looking for scenic walks and photo opportunities without the intense heat of summer.

Autumn also offers comfortable temperatures and clear skies, superb for exploring the island's trails and coastal areas. While the canola fields aren't present, the landscape takes on a different kind of beauty with changing foliage on the mainland visible from the island.
