It is a convenient location close to the state park with a wonderful backyard overlooking the Suwannee River. There is a wonderful Sweet shop across the street from the motel and some excellent dining up and down the highway.

Everything was perfect during my stay. Checking in and out was no problem. The staff was there to answer any questions I had. This place is perfect for boating and sking. With the river as your back yard what else could you ask for. I will be returning to the area and stay here.

This place was so disgusting we turned around and went home. Canceled the hole vacation. They offered to give us another room but they were all gross. Extremely gross. Stains on blankets and sheets drywall had mold and holes. Showers were all worn out and gross. The one room we were staying in had food and liquid in the bottom that nobody cleaned up. Happened to see the owner as I was giving my keys back and he didn’t apologize or offer money back. Simply asked if I would like to buy the place because he was sure I could run it better. This place was disgusting. I can’t believe a reputable company such as Expedia would even promote this

Will be asking my bank to revese the charges.
We walked in room smelled very bad. Checked the bed linens were dirty with stains & hair. Pillow cases had stains, blood or makeup. Never cleaned!! Looked like it was from the 1950's, never update. We walked out, turned key in said we are not staying here. This place was horribly disgusting. I don't see how anybody could stay in that place you want to call a hotel.

Old style Florida motor lodge. Slightly outdated, but room was clean and bed was comfortable. Perfect for our 1 night stopover with our dog. Beautiful riverfront park-like space.

Old Florida lives!!
Definitely an old school, old Florida motel right on the Suwannee river. A no frills throwback to a time quickly disappearing. Small town diners nearby. Lots to do in the area. Experience it while you can!

Gem on the Suwannee
The Suwannee Gables is an adorable motel in a GREAT location. I needed to meet my husband there, as he was kayaking around the entire state of Florida, and this gem of a motel was the perfect spot to meet and resupply him. The floating dock made it so easy for him to get in and out of the water. The owner is delightful, and the grounds were lovely. Although the rooms may not have been updated in quite some time, our room was more than adequate. I'd stay there again.

never again-for this motel and hotels.com
ummmm i did not stay there because their front desk did not answer our “ring” to check us in after standing in the cold for 20 minutes. we also called their office with no answer. immediately reported this to hotels.com who also tried to call their front desk and did jot get an answer. however today i get an email that says the hotel will not “refund” my money. so now i get the great pleasure of wasting my time filing a dispute for a charge. i would NEVER recommend this motel NOR hotels.com and will never use hotels.com again. this is completely ridiculous that they think they can charge me for a motel stay where i was not checked in because no one would come to their front desk.

This is a potential million dollar property that has not been nurtured or given loving care. The view as advertised was spectacular. Sand Spurs and fire ants prevented utilizing the ground for any recreational activities. Lighthouse Restaurant nearby, was old Florida yummy and friendly.

The AC and refrigerator in room provided for our needs after being on a few hours. We didnt like the dead ants all over the bathroom floor or the live spiders on the ceiling. The tv worked after I unplugged it and reset programming. This kind of room is ok in a pinch but no place to hang out and relax.

Good clean place to rest your head
We were fishing out of Steinhatchee and needed a cheap place to stay nearby. While the hotel was old, it was clean and the bed was very comfortable. No amenities such as a washer and dryer but it met our needs and expectations. My family is used to staying at Hampton Inn or higher end hotels but they had no complaints here.

Nice hotel
Nice old school hotel right on the Suwannee river. Not much in this area as it is a quiet old town but everyone was very friendly.

We were very disappointed in this property. The one plus was front desk staff. She was very friendly and helpful. Appeared as though she slept on couch in lobby amongst a bunch of storage boxes random appliances. If it wasn’t already so late at night and we hadn’t been so exhausted, we would’ve left after we saw our room. We had a cabin on the river and were told we got “the best one”. We had to drive behind the main building and across the grass to a totally unlit area. Had to use a flashlight to find our cabin, (trudging through tall wet grass) and unlock the door. Once inside we found dirty utensils in kitchen sink, empty water bottles on chair, sand on carpet, broken blinds with no curtains, broken out screens, dirty bathtub. My children were very nervous about staying there and all huddled into bed with me. We were up and out first thing in the morning and then were able to see that the grounds resembled a junkyard. Trailers full of junk covered in tarps amongst the overgrown weeds. The “marina”consisted of a small dock with no boats. Not somewhere I would recommend.

A place to rest on a long road trip.
We checked in at the front desk. It just so happened it was the owner of the motel he was pleasant and professional and very accommodating. We needed a place for two days and it was a great location. The room was clean. Nice restaurants around the area. Cute atmosphere.

Price Gouging after a Hurricane!
Booked a room on Hotels.com. Drove 5 hours to Old Town Florida with my son. Right before we got there, I called to inform that we would be checking in soon. Manager said he had no reservation and no rooms available. When I meantioned my young son, he suddenly had a "newly remodeled room" for double the price. I said that I could not afford that. Pulled into 3 motels and luckily found a room. 15 minutes later I got a call from the Swannee Gables manager and he found my reservation "AND" had a cancellation. I said that I already found another room. He charged me anyway for 2 nights even though we did not stay there. WRONG AND BAD BUSINESS!

Never stayed at such a worn out place. For $100 per night, we had higher expectations. Many of the lights were burned out of the sign. Old broken architecture was slightly hidden. The room was smelly, the plastic sheet covering the mattress was torn. The ice machine was broken. Not enough towels or soap. Linens were worn and looked dirty

Storms and lightening can do a lot of damage to a property.The sign is of Neon and the company is located in Jaxsonville.They only come to the area if they have other jobs.I am glad my desk clerk was trying to help you.Thanks for staying with us

I very much appreciated the cleanliness of, and obvious care put into the motel and grounds by the owners and staff. I was especially impressed by the very nice park area they created behind the motel, overlooking the beautiful Suwannee River. It is a very beautiful and peaceful area, made so by the owners, and adding to my relaxation and enjoyment of my stay at this very nice motel. Thank you.

DON'T stay at this motel!
The reservation was made for the wrong day, but the owner was very nice about that. He didn't charge for the day we missed. Only the day we arrived. I appreciated that very much....BUT! We got there at 10 p.m. there was a strange man sitting in the chair outside our room. I believe he was stoned. He didn't see us when we walked up. I had to speak loudly to him to get him to move. His hands were shaking, and he was really out of it. He then loitered around the parking lot. I called the owner to have him take care of it. As for cleanliness... There were cigarette burns on the comforter..a lot of them. The worst part..the SHEETS WERE stained! Quite a bit of stains. I have pictures, but can't upload them. It was grosse! Would never stay there or recommend that place to anyone.

Fine if you know what to expect!
We stayed here for two nights while visiting nearby relatives. The location is convenient and right on the Suwanee River. We stayed in a non-renovated room, and it was reasonably comfortable (though smelled strongly of baby powder). This is clearly not a particularly fancy/nice hotel, so if you are used to or prepared for a standard motel in a good location, you'll be fine- but ask for one of the updated rooms!
