The Chapel of our Lady Desatanudos is sometimes known as Capela de Nossa Senhora Desatadora de Nós. In English, this can be translated as “the Chapel of our Lady of Untying Knots” or simply “the Chapel of our Lady of the Knots.” This unusual focus of the church is reflected in its distinctive design. Take a break from sunbathing on the beach or shopping on Rua das Pedras to make your way to this beautiful and interesting building. It offers peace, quiet and time to think. Catholic devotions to Our Lady of the Knots were first observed in Germany in the early 18th century. Hundreds of years later, this remains one of the lesser known titles given to the Virgin Mary. Only a small number of cities anywhere in the world contain a chapel named after Our Lady of the Knots. This chapel was consecrated in 2001, but its simple, understated exterior could come from almost any time. Look for the crest over the doorway which bears the date 1700, a reference to the long history of Our Lady of the Knots. See the beautifully detailed angels who fly on either side of the grand, arched entrance. These beautiful examples of metalwork were crafted by highly regarded sculptor Hildebrando Lima. Step inside and marvel at the equally striking triptych of colorful paintings on the wall behind the altar. Count the chairs in the room. You will find 33 of them, one for each year of Christ’s age when he died. Enjoy a moment of reflection here, before heading back outside. Find the exterior wall completely covered in colorful plaques expressing messages of gratitude to Our Lady of the Knots. The Chapel of Our Lady Desatanudos is within easy walking distance of several natural attractions that are great places to gather your thoughts after a visit to this spiritual place. These include a few lovely beaches, as well as scenic Geribá Lagoon. Turn left out of the doors and walk 10..Copocabana beach.. Turn right and walk the same.. Ipanema beach. Plenty of places to eat as well. The downfall was this. The bathroom seriously need renovations. Shower annd toilet area were very old and some mold as well. But the rest of the hotel room was fine Hallways could use an update as well. For the price?
