A great hotel in the historical part of Changsha very close to the world famous new development areas such as IFS and Wuyi Square. Inexpensive didi to all famous areas.
Decor is preserved Changsha of an era bygone just prior to the new developments and is charming in its own way -- including a antique elevator that may make some western travelers a little less comfortable.
We really enjoyed the "aunties" who manage the laundry room - providing essentially a "just drop off your dirty laundry and pick up later" service that is so rare nowadays in major tourist destinations.
The rooms are very clean, relatively large, and comfortable -- but decor is Changsha of the past ... not the modernized western decor of most other western-bookable properties in the area. We really enjoyed the tea table next to the street view window, with a genuine tea set ALREADY FILLED WITH HIGH QUALITY tea leaves everyday by the housekeeper "auntie" -- this help us to enjoy the robot delivered to door gourmet food deliveries via Meituan. This represents a quintessential "Changsha Experience" that we have traveled half way around the earth for.
Breakfast is REALLY AUTHENTIC Changsha - with the handsome young noodle master whipping up all the local classic favorites including "small wontons" that I can't stop eating. Those craving to "live a western life" while in Changsha may be slightly disappointed with the small pastry selection and single coffee machine. But that's not why we travel for.
