In the heart of the Alps and within easy reach of several natural parks, Chamrousse will delight those who love the mountains, the great outdoors and open-air sports.
Situated to the south of the Belledonne Mountain Range, Chamrousse is a ski resort famed for its sublime panoramic view. It is certainly one of the oldest resorts, tracing its skiing roots back to the 19th century. In summer and winter alike, all kinds of mountain pursuits are on offer, comprising sport and nature, whether holidaying with friends or family.
With around 60 miles of downhill ski slopes, 25 miles of cross-country ski slopes and a snow park, snowsports of every kind are on offer! Novices will appreciate the easier slopes in the middle of the forest, while more seasoned skiers can head for the Olympic slopes or the Casserousse slope, at 850m altitude.
And when the snow's gone, Chamrousse has plenty of open-air sports to offer. Whether hiking or mountain biking, you can discover the region's landscapes, wildlife and plant life, before enjoying a waterside picnic, on the banks of Lake Achard or the Robert Lakes. Younger visitors will love the Chamrousse Aventures adventure park or the La Grenouillère Lake.
With so much to offer, Chamrousse naturally plays host to sporting events such as the "Down'Up de Chamrousse", combining a giant slalom and skating time trials, or the "Allumée de Chamrousse", a 2-mile run over a lit trail. Other events pay tribute to the region's heritage and traditions, such as the Transhumance festival or the festival of wood.
The easiest way to get to Chamrousse is via Grenoble, which is just 18 miles to the north. If you don't have a car, there are several bus links between the two towns. Grenoble also has an airport and a high-speed train station for connections to other major French cities. If arriving from abroad, Lyon and Geneva airports are other gateways to the whole region.
