Lovely setting
Very picturesque location beside the bridge over the river. Very attentive owner who was keen to make our stay comfortable. The room was comfortable with good quality furnishings. Great to sit out on the river terrace with a pre-dinner drink.

Disappointing Stay
Late booking meant that I had to accept the last room in the hotel which was a family room, but with a double occupancy price. When we arrived we found that the room was on the top floor looking down onto the A713 which was very noisy, the room itself could have done with a deep clean as there was quite a lot of dust and a number of spider webs on the ceiling. At dinner I ordered the Gammon Steak and my wife ordered the Haddock & chips, the food looked really good until I started to eat the Gammon, it had a sour taste and after eating a couple of pieces I decided not to take it any further and went looking for Mark who was working front of house and he offered to take it away and get something else for me, I opted for the Chicken but didn’t realise that I would have to wait a further fifteen minutes for my meal to arrive, by this time my wife had finished her meal. I asked Mark if anyone in the kitchen had tasted the Gammon and he said that he had and the meat was definitely off and couldn’t understand why. I wasn’t offered a reduction on my meal and for having to wait for the replacement dish.I paid Mark in full for our stay before we left. It wasn’t until later that day that I had to ring the hotel and left a message on their voicemail to make sure that no one else was served with the Gammon as I really didn’t feel too good, I thought that the hotel would have rang me back to see if I was Ok but they didn't. We won't be staying or eating there again

Fabulous find
Booked as last minute Getaway. Owner and wife are lovely make you feel really welcome. Cosy hotel and staff are really friendly. Views are stunning sitting right on Loch Ken. Comfortable room , had lovely meal good hearty food which was great. Wish weather had been better next morning or we would have stayed a bit longer. Will definitely be back

Lovely B&B hotel in beautiful quiet location along the River Ken. Very welcoming hosts and excellent dinner and breakfast. Ideal location for visiting Galloway Forest Park.

Hotel in a lovely area. Room quite basic but no problems with it. Food was fantastic much better standard than expected. Presented beautifully and tasted great.

Wonderful experience!!!
They are the most attentive and gracious staff that you can imagine. Beautiful location next to the river. Food is excellent especially the sticky toffee. I gave it all 5's because 6's aren't an option. Definitely staying there next time I visit.

nice hotel next to the river.
enjoyed my stay but found the room just a bit crowded, No hairdryer!,disappointing breakfast was really nice.and the owner was very helpful.I would go back again but not in a family room. Overall, it was a pleasant couple of days away.

Friendly family run hotel, restaurant and bar
A 2 night stay to break a 9 hour drive back from our holiday on Skye. We had a great time in this friendly family run hotel with restaurant and bar. We had a family room and our kids loved their full size single beds. The restaurant had a superb selection of very tasty from proper curry to staple favourites like steak and ale - and catered well for children too. The area caters well for hikers, walkers and those seeking mountain bike trails and great road riding routes too. It's also in the middle of a dark sky park (first in U.K. for star gazing and night sky watching). It is also within 30 mins of several of the 7Stanes forest centres with green, blue, red and black MTB routes. We went to Kirroughtree which had a great visitor centre with MTB (incl kids bikes) hire for £25 for a day - worth it just for the red taster route if you are new to MTB. Alternative Highand Games was also on the weekend (first Sunday in Aug) we visited. Owners were very friendly and helpful, and let us use their bike store for overnight security of our 4 mountain bikes. Good selection of local ales. A great stay and we will come back next year. Thanks to the owners and their team. A long review to say simply: if you stay here you are making a great choice, and the hotel is right on the River Ken.

Oue experience of the hotel was good, friendly staff, clean comfortable room with a good bed. Thje restaurant was attractive and well run with a varied menu. Food was excellent. Overall the best value for meny that I have had for years.

Quiet area
Very welcoming staff and landlord. Clean tidy but dated (twin) small room. Shower cubicle is so small it felt like trying to shower while hanging on a coat hanger. .Overall good value but check your room photo to for shower size.

Lovely hotel with wonderful staff. Opted for budget room (Room 5) and bathroom facilities were very cosy! Our room looked out on to the road but there were nice views beyond and lovely birdsong. Everywhere is kept very clean. Hearty breakfast sets you up for the day and there's a nice resident's lounge. Wifi was hit and miss. Lots to see and do in the surrounding area. I can imagine some vistors saying the hotel is 'dated' but it has bags of character. 0Would certainly stay again.

Excellent and helpful staff, nice atmosphere. Take care not to arrive before the stated checkin time, as they only open the doors just before that time. Not a problem, we went off exploring. A pleasant stay, and we would go back there, but perhaps try a different bed, but I am sure they could put this issue right, quite easily !

Special country atmosphere and a flavour of histor
We were not looking for luxury, we were looking for the special Scottish country atmosphere and we certainly found it. The only complaint we have was lunch not being available and check in being as late as 4pm. On the other hand they did check us in before 4pm when we complained and said it was unacceptable.

A welcoming hotel with good service
We had a nice short stay at the hotel. Service was excellent with all staff friendly and helpful. Evening meal was good (my beef and ale pie was great, my wife's burger not quite so good) and breakfast was very nice. Superb location and overall I would recommend this hotel.

Cozy country inn dating to the 18th century. Has been properly modernized while retaining character. Double bed with alarm, tea & coffee maker, nice view, very clean large shower, Good selection of television channels in guest rooms. Sitting room available for guests. Hotel has a nicely equipped bar, billiards room, and beer garden. Wifi is free and accessible ithroughout the building. Hotel has stairs, so disabled guests should inquire about access. The owners and staff are very friendly and strive to make guests feel welcome. Will not hesitate to recommend to friends and will stay here again.

Lovely family run hotel in an idyllic location
Very friendly staff and a lovely restaurant. The family room was large and comfortable though the bathroom was a little on the small side. The addition of a residents lounge was great and the view from the terrace over the river was spectacular. Will definitely be staying there again!

Lovely people managing the place!
Had a great 3 nights stay at this hotel. Lovely people managing the place. Always great to talk to and willing to help out on places to go. Daily we got up late and still got breakfast even though we were late! Just ensure you tell them if you're planning to go out and come back after 10pm since they lock the main door.

Nice weekend away
We stayed 2 nights, twin room. Was clean and comfortable, great location. Food in the restaurant, and breakfasts, was absolutely excellent! Plenty of choice on the evening menu. The staff were all very friendly and helpful too.

Traditional and well managed hotel
Characterful and with a lovely location on the side of the riverbank. Lovely wee bar and couple of friendly dogs. We had a couple of issues which the hosts listened to and sorted without fuss. This is good management.

A comfortable small hotel in a scenic location.
Parts of the building are old and it is full of character. Some rooms face a road with some early traffic. Welcoming staff to a very clean hotel, serving very good food. It has a comfortable residents lounge.

Lovely hotel within Galloway Forest park
The hotel was a charming old worldly inn with great food and lovely staff. It was in an excellent location to visit the Forest park and to see the Dark Skies park and the star filled skies. Would definitely book to stay again.
