Casal da Serra

10/10 Excellent

"A great little rustic spot in the heart of rural Portugal! Owners take pride in their establishment and absolutely love, entertaining, and having guests. Very authentic Portuguese experience. This is a great location to explore the local castle & ruins and then a short drive to Monsanto 🏰"

Hotel 4* Puente de Alconétar

10/10 Excellent

"The hotel is very impressive. What looks like an old castle restored and converted with many of the old features remaining. Staff very helpful, pets allowing in the bar which was great. Car parking in the grounds and very easy to enter/exit. The hotel sits in a big beautiful square. Would happily recommend."

Hotel La Encomienda

10/10 Excellent

"This hotel was great! While the immediate neighborhood is a little worse for wear in some ways, don’t let that put you off. This is a really nice hotel in a really nice little town. If you have time, walk across the stone arched bridge and enjoy the beautiful park on the other side. There are food stores, restaurants and everything you need - and the hotel it itself was great."

Aqua et Oleum Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"Great hotel, superb kitchen and facilities. The design and all decoration of the facilities is done to a high standard while respecting the old oil mill. The swimming pool and gardens are well looked after. Our room was amazing, huge and comfortable bed and great service. Only inconvenience it does not allow to flush toilet paper and there is just an ordinary bin to dispose of toilet tissue. Individual plastic bags and regular room service to change them should be in place. Also, the hotel is not easy to access, there are two tracks to access them and we just found out two days after we arrived that there is a one way system as the tracks are trecherous."

La Posada de Grimaldo

10/10 Excellent

"A really nice relaxing place with a personal check-in. The rooms are large and nicely furnished. There is a very useful communal kitchen shared between the 3 rooms to help yourself to cheese, fruit, bread, tea and coffee. There is a bar that serves food one minute away. Overall highly recommended"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Casillas De Coria?

The best area to stay in Casillas De Coria is within the village itself, or in the immediate surrounding countryside for a rural retreat.

For those who appreciate convenience and a sense of community, staying directly in Casillas De Coria is ideal. The village is small and easily navigable on foot, with its central plaza, Plaza Mayor, acting as a focal point. Here, you'll find a few local shops and a traditional restaurant or two. It's a peaceful base from which to explore the wider region.

Couples looking for a tranquil escape often prefer the rural properties just outside the village. These often come with more space, privacy, and amenities like private pools or gardens. Being surrounded by the Extremaduran landscape offers a relaxing setting, with opportunities for walking or simply enjoying the quiet.

When is the best time to go to Casillas De Coria?

The best time to go to Casillas De Coria is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months. These periods offer pleasant weather, ideal for exploring the region without the intense heat of summer or the cooler, sometimes wetter, days of winter.

Spring is particularly lovely when the countryside is green and wildflowers are abundant. Temperatures are comfortably warm, typically ranging from 18°C to 25°C, making it superb for outdoor activities like walking in the Sierra de Gata or visiting the natural pools. This season is excellent for couples who enjoy scenic drives and exploring charming, less crowded villages.

Autumn also provides agreeable conditions, with temperatures usually between 20°C and 28°C. The landscape takes on beautiful golden hues, and it's a great time for experiencing local harvest festivals. It's a good choice for solo travellers looking for a peaceful retreat and an opportunity to engage with local culture and gastronomy, as the weather is still warm enough for comfortable outdoor dining.

While summer (July and August) can be very hot, often exceeding 35°C, it's a popular time for families due to school holidays. Many local accommodations and natural attractions are well-prepared for the heat, with plenty of opportunities for swimming in rivers and reservoirs.
