Walk between the art-adorned walls of a beautiful ancient Arabic house and learn about one of Spain’s richest cultural influences.
Casa Arabe (Arabic House) is a Mudejar-style house dating back to the 14th century, located within the heritage site area of Córdoba. Today the house is used as a meeting point to share and distribute Arabic culture and is self-described as “a bridge between two worlds.”
The building itself provides a reason to visit. Expect to see beautiful examples of traditional Arabic architecture and design, including mosaics, water features and exquisite tiling. Stroll through five different houses, all connected by galleries, passages and hundreds of years of history. Relax in the sunshine on the outdoor patios and listen to the bubbling of the fountains. Climb the tower for panoramic vistas of Cordoba’s skyline. Be here at sunset for an even more special view.
Within the building complex learn about the historical and current connections between Spanish and Arabic culture. Study the exhibits and enjoy the artwork in diverse gallery spaces throughout the houses.
The site offers many different events including films, storytelling, concerts and seminars. Special activities occur during religious periods such as Ramadan. Check the Casa Arabe website for information about current events.
Casa Arabe is open on weekdays with opening times typical of Córdoba; it is closed in the mid-afternoon. Entry is free. Special events may require prior organization and may also have an admission fee. Regular buses stop nearby, but in Córdoba it is best to walk between the sights. Stop at other nearby historical center attractions and explore the winding streets on foot.
Reach the nearby Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba (Cathedral of Córdoba) in 5 minutes by foot. Originally built as an Islamic mosque, it was later converted into a Christian cathedral. The intricate and grand architecture of this building is impressive.
This Arabic house, meeting point and distributor of culture is a special and sacred space, and a must-visit for anyone interested in Arabic culture. During your time in Córdoba admire its beautiful construction and cultural significance.
