This is an extremely easy home to entertain children. You'll see why this is perhaps the most popular rental house on Captiva based on rental history. The Mermaid's private, secluded, 26 ft x 14 ft heated and newly resurfaced pool with paver stone deck is just off the double French doors of the living room. The Mermaid Home may be called a cottage, but this cozy house is as well updated and perhaps better equipped than a new luxury home. Included is a 43' Smart HDTV, a 6-disc CD player with a large music selection, Bluetooth connection to our 100-watt Onkyo receiver with Bose inside speakers and outside pool speakers. Wireless Comcast cable Internet is in place. The primary bedroom has a King bed with 32" Smart HDTV and a new master bath with shower. The guest bedroom is twin equipped and has an HDTV with DVD. The living room provides a very comfortable Natuzzi Italian leather queen-size sleeper sofa, The new hallway bath services the guest room and living room guests. The kitchen is new and fully equipped with a New S/S ice-making refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, Cuisinart drip coffee maker, Keurig, and all utensils. The adjacent open dining area has a table for 4 and stools at the kitchen bar for 2 more. A Weber gas grill is outside the kitchen and pool area, with a spare propane tank always available for heavy use. New washer and dryer provided in the adjacent laundry room. Included is a handy beach cart with soft sand tires to haul all the beach chairs, umbrellas, cooler, beach toys, and beach towels to the beach The grounds are covered with many varieties of tropical flowering plants (though replanted and recovering from the storm), the beach is a short 2-4 -minute walk and the docks of the bay of the Green Flash Restaurant are even closer. Captiva's charming village center is a 5-minute walk from the house. Personally maintained by the owners, this home is one of the very few Captiva rental houses not managed by a management company. We personally supervise and assist our cleaning staff each Saturday. As the last to walk out the door prior to your arrival, we can assure you the Mermaid Home is one of the best-prepared homes on Captiva, both inside and outside. Though we give the personal attention of a private host, we perform as professionals. We accept reservations no further than a year in advance, as current guests have the first option to reserve the same week the following year. We loved this cottage, located in the heart of Captiva. This house was the perfect size for a family of five with three small children. We spent our day at the beach in the morning and afternoon, just a short walk down the road and to the right. In the afternoon, we had lunch and spent our time swimming. We have been coming to Sanibel/Captiva for 30+ years and have normally stayed on Sanibel. Due to Hurricane Ian, we stayed here and LOVED it. We wanted to come and support the businesses that were open - shopping and dining. The home is charming, cozy and spotlessly clean. While we did not cook, the home is equipped with everything needed to make a great meal. The decor is lovely. The pool/outdoor area was great. You could enjoy sitting in the sun if you wanted to get that suntan, or enjoy the screened in pool area which kept the sun to a minimum. The pool was a great temperature. This home was also great for my mom because she has some mobility issues and with only one small step up, it was easy for her to maneuver. Larry, the owner, was also a pleasure to deal with. The location was perfect…a short walk to the beach and to restaurants and a small grocery store. The home is beautifully but simply decorated. Our bed was comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed. The salt water pool was pristine. We would stay here again. It would be nice if the 2nd bedroom had a king size bed for a 2nd couple. There was plenty of room for our family of three, both inside and out. We loved being able to walk to the beach whenever we wanted to, or to walk to the many restaurants in town. We stayed at the Mermaid House many years ago and were so glad to be able to come back this year. Everything has been kept up beautifully. The simplicity of the house with just the right amount of amenities (including plenty of fresh towels, the right amount of kitchen utensils, the comfortable beds, the nice sound system, etc) and the lovely clean very private pool provided a tremendously good place for rest and fun. Our favorite thing was the pool right outside the living room door. We made use of the wagon to get to the beach. I did read in another post about the beach being a 2 minute walk, using the two paths you could try neither was that quick. We stayed for 2 weeks and loved it!!! We have been visiting Sanibel & Captiva Island for many years & love it. This was by far the best trip yet! We have twin 5 year old daughters & a 6 year old son\~ the set up was absolutly perfect for swimming kids! Our kids were able to wake up early & get to swimming (usually by 8am!). We walked a short 4 min to the beach during the afternoon for some beach time, then back to the pool. It is in great walking distance to the "city" of Captiva. Many resturaunts, coffee places, shops, & ice cream just blocks away! We had an AMAZING trip\~ cannot wait to go back! ##### Katie W. Archival ### 10/10 Excellent #### Gail A. 12 May 2014 #### Like finding a natural pearl along the beach Mermaid House: Relaxing and peaceful, immaculate inside and out, beautifully decorated and landscaped, very accommodating.These are some of the words I would use to describe this quaint, adorable cottage on Captiva Island. My sister and I enjoyed a week at the Mermaid House in April 2014 and we have nothing but great things to say about both the house and the owner. It is perfect for couples, small families, girl's week, or the elderly. From the moment we opened the squeaky front screen door onto the screened in front porch, we were in love with this property. The owner, who is local, provides all of the comforts of home, with the perfect atmosphere to just lay back and relax. He is available throughout the stay to answer any questions and to assist if issues arise. The screened-in heated mermaid pool, nestled among palm trees and tropical plants, is private and provided hours of quiet relaxation after spending the day at the beach. The beach is an easy two minute walk and a cart is provided to haul the owner-provided beach gear, umbrellas, and chairs. Besides enjoying the beach and lounging around the house and pool, we especially enjoyed a five-hour cruise to privately-owned Useppa Island where we lunched at the Collier Inn and walked along the pink pathways winding their way among the beautiful houses. The highlight of the cruise was seeing the dolphins race alongside the boat as we made our way to the island. Captiva Village is a short five-minute walk from the Mermaid House. Some of the restaurants we recommend are: Sunshine Seafood in Captiva Village (small venue but big on flavor), The Green Flash, just a two-minute walk from Mermaid House (our favorite), and Lazy Flamingo on Sanibel Island (the salmon and grouper were excellent). I highly recommend this property for a relaxing vacation on Captiva Island. We reserved our week for next year even before we finished our stay.
