The Ryder Hotel

"Love the 'vibe" this place gives off, the retro surfer hotel. The host in the restaurant gave us great pointers on a rooftop bar to view sunset ,upon our return we had a few drinks in the hotel bar. Great service , we took our drinks back to the areas with the outside bar and fountain. The couch in front of the fireplace was all mold between the cushions. we went around and checked out all of the furniture , all mold. I pulled them apart to help them air out . we opted to sit on hard chairs, also filthy so we wiped them down. They truly have a perfect space but more than 70 % of the hanging light strings were blown and needed replacing. I then noticed several tables with glasses on them and since our bartender was so nice and apparantly working solo, I decided to help him out - I took 8 trips in and out running glasses into him. Finally a girl came out of the kitchen in slow motion and picked up one glass I missed but never wiped anything down or straightened out chairs. The outside bar area and pool were scheduled to be closed for a wedding on Friday (it was wednesday when we went down) I certainly hoped they cleaned it up. Also our room was never serviced in 4 days- I think housekeeping needs review. The wedding caterers delivering at midnite was a negative also- beep beep beep :("

"Everything was fine. Great Staff all around. Hotel restaurant was great, Valet parking provided. The only thing we found not to our liking was that the bathroom is quite cramped and there was a lot of constant banging noises coming from the walls. We figured it was probably because of the old plumbing system."

"Lovely historical neighborhood! The unit is full of charm and was well appointed for our stay. The spiral staircase is charming but a bit of a climb, so be careful if you have mobility issues. Loved the privacy, the courtyard, and the beautiful neighborhood."

"Excellent location, and nice walk along the water into the French Quarter. We stayed in the main house on the third-floor suite for three nights. The first floor is like a museum, the second floor a couple of nice rooms, and the third floor has two large suites with park view and an up-dated nice shower. Note though: no elevator, not much parking, limited continental breakfast options, and we thought housekeeping did a very, very minimal job not worthy of a 5-star hotel. She did not vacuum, wipe the table off from breakfast, replenish the coffee food table, and the TV in the extra room had a cable problem and would not work. There is no mini fridge in the room or safe. Plenty of room and chairs, but we though there could have been more comfortable chairs. We loved staying in a famous historical house but wish room house cleaning was significantly improved."
