This was a relaxed get-away location in the beautiful countryside. It’s not far from Galway and Cong where we went to Ashford Castle. It’s also a couple miles from a fun local pub.
We loved this cottage! It was so charming and cozy. One day of our stay was rainy and we were very happy to just stay in and cozy up with a book and fire.
This property was spectacular. It was truly a very enjoyable experience. The inside of the gate house was clean very comfortable and felt like home. The interior had been updated since we booked and was amazing. The property surrounding the gate house was picture perfect. The host Finola made sure we had everything we needed for an amazing stay.
A very quiet and lovely location. Kitchen facilities were convenient and modern.Easy access to shopping in Headford. Overall comfortable and very clean. Would definitely stay again if we were to return.
My husband and I enjoyed the property and used it as our central location to visit Galway, the Connemara peninsula and up into county Mayo. Comfortable beds. Would stay again.
Thia is one of our favorite VRBOs ! It is charming, private, idyllic and absolutely comfortable. The rural setting is breathtaking. There is even a pony !! Finola helped us with directions and saved us one night. She was always so helpful. We just loved it here !!!
Stayed for 3 nights. Beautiful old lodge/cottage in quiet rural location. Easy drive to Galway City and surrounding towns. Lovely decor and furnishings, with everything needed for stay. Highly recommended, looking forward to visiting again.
We were thrilled with Gate Cottage. Serene pastoral surroundings, excellent amenities and charming, welcoming hosts. Having spent 5 nights here, we were sad to leave. It was a perfect base for exploring County Galway.
We were absolutely delighted to arrive at this little slice of heaven after a week in Dublin. The peaceful estate was like something out of a dream and the gate house was perfect for us. We can't wait to return with our children. It is a perfect getaway for a family of 3 or 4. The house had all the amenities to cook. House was clean and better than advertised.
We truly enjoyed our stay at the Gate Lodge. It is beautiful, cozy and quiet. Equipped with everything you need, and very well maintained. Finola was lovely!
We are still swooning over our stay at this precious cottage! Finola could not have been more accommodating and helpful. We loved the country, rustic setting and took full advantage of the outdoor patio and late sunsets. We slept wonderfully in the comfortable bed and used the second room for our luggage. If you appreciate a historic and unique experience close to so many quaint communities, this place is for you!
What a pleasant surprise! Very lovely cottage tucked away in the forest. What a magical experience. Everything was immaculate and cozy. Felt like it was something right out of a storybook. Absolutely loved it, thank you so much. Wish we had a few more days.
My daughter and I were on a short tour of Ireland and wanted something more “old Ireland” like this traditional yet very updated cottage. The place was perfect. It has new furniture, good beds and a brand new kitchen. We enjoyed walking in the evening on the quiet little lane of the cottage strolling past fields of sheep etc. We will be back.
I cannot say enough after the Gate Lodge and Finola!
The home was quaint and a lovely setting in the rolling hills of Ireland.
The kitchen was modern and spacious. We loved the wood stove in the living room!
Everything was clean and well-kept.
Finola was fantastic to work and communicate with! A perfect spot!
Lovely quiet spot. Beautifully prepared and perfect for a quiet week.
The space is exactly as described with a newer kitchen. It is a little further for points of interest we wanted but it forced us to visit some areas that we would not have otherwise done. Connemara is with easy reach but it is a full day trip out to Clifdon and the Atlantic Way so plan accordingly. Galway is 30 minutes. Cliffs Mohar 90 mins each way so we came back to Dublin via the cliffs and Limerick. We would recommend this location. The host was always quick to respond to messages and very helpful. Five Stars easily.
This tiny cottage offered a cozy retreat for two of us at the end of long days touring around the Galway area. The beds were comfy, the evenings in front of the fire were great and the modern kitchen offered everything we needed. I wouldn’t recommend the cottage for any more than two adults and maybe a young child though. Although 30 minutes away from Galway, the drive to and from was through narrow lanes and was an adventure. Across the road at the main estate we watched horses in the pasture, and we were surrounded by really beautiful trees. If you’re looking to be in the midst of activity with walkable pubs, this wouldn't be your place. Make sure to do a day trip to the Cliffs of Mohr and take the Doolin ferry ride to see them from the sea. Finola was a very responsive host, making sure we were comfortable.
The perfect location to explore Galway and Mayo counties and the beautiful wild Atlantic coast. The Gate Lodge is clean, warm and well appointed, set on acres of Irish country side. Our host was very responsive.
