Secluded River Cabin Retreat with Outdoor Bathhouse and Kayaks
Looking for a place to get away from it all? Don't want any neighbors nearby? Thunder Mountain Cabin-in-the-Woods is the perfect secluded retreat for anniversaries, honeymoons, or just a quiet place to escape by yourselves. Enjoy views of the river and Ouachita Mountains from the wrap around porch while you drink your morning coffee. Swim, kayak, tube, or paddle boat alone in the wide section of river. Hike four miles of trails through 80 acres of pine forest and hills. Bathe in the private outdoor bathhouse while enjoying the secluded view. There is no chlorinated pool, but the clear river and bathhouse are even better!
The deck includes a grill and patio furniture, as well as two porch swings and chairs. There are 118 steps down to the river since the cabin sits high above the surrounding hills. The views on the way down are beautiful, and the hike on the way back up will leave you breathless! :-)
Both sides of the river are part of the property, and no other cabin or home sits on the 80 acres to help provide that true secluded get-away experience! The property enjoys 1/3 mile of riverfront and has about 4 miles of private trails.
Other things to note: -Dogs for couples without kids will be considered if they do not shed, do not chew or scratch, and will be kept clean. A pet fee is required. Please contact owner before booking or insure that your booking includes the pet. -The final 1/2 mile to the cabin is a rough dirt road. A small suv or truck is recommended, but a car should be okay if the weather is dry. This is a cabin in the woods, so even though we strive to keep it very clean, you may encounter some spiderwebs, bugs, and other nature. -Three security cameras are located outside (Driveway area, Side of cabin, and toward the river. They may be turned off.

Seriously couldn't have asked for a better place to visit. If anything, the property and scenery is better than advertised. What a beautiful place to visit!
This property was everything I envisioned based on the photos, plus some! The cabin was spotless and had the best stocked kitchen I've seen. The property was beautiful and trails were clean. They literally have thought of every need here!
The property is amazing. The host was very helpful. The river and outdoor area of this place are fantastic. We spent all of our time either on the water or on the decks.
Everything was exactly as described. spew. and quite and secluded. The cabin was stocked with all you need. I’m glad we were fully prepared for the steps! we truly enjoyed every minute of our stay.
So many amenities. Lots of yard games; croquet, ladder ball. Complete seclusion. Beautiful views. Rustic and has everything you need except your meals and snacks. My family played and laughed and we didn’t leave. So much to explore. So many different areas to hang out. River was crystal clear and so enjoyable. Highly recommend morning outdoor shower with coffee.
This was everything we hoped for and more! The place is fantastic, the vibes are immaculate. If you want to get away in a comfortable way, this is the spot!! Mr. Todd was a very excellent host and the property is fantastic for nature lovers who want somewhere cozy to return to at the end of the day. Great for a small group to spend time with each other away from the hustle and bustle of daily life!
Just stunning... loved the view, hiking trails, kayaking on the river. Cabin was cozy and deck was awesome. Beware lots of stairs to climb down and up from the river. Built camp fires in the fire pits on top by the cabin and down by the river. Just perfect for the cool weather at night. Love love love!!
We loved everything about this place. The host was very communicative and accommodating. The seclusion and tranquility was amazing. It was 100+ degrees the entire time, so we very rarely left the river. The stairs down/up from the river are definitely not for the faint of heart. We would definitely book again.
Nice clean cabin. And relaxing.
The best example of peace and tranquility.
Secluded cabin on 80 acres over looking a river and mountains. Outdoor shower and bath.
Fishing, hiking, relaxing. Quiet. Wont see another human unless you leave the property.
Awesome owner - host.
Also has a tv, hulu, disney roku etc
Highly reccomend
We recently spent 4 nights at the cabin and we cannot express enough how wonderful we found everything to be. The location was ideal and everything was exactly, if not better, than described in the listing. The host communication was excellent and the cabin guide provided was impressive in it's detail and scale. We did not see or hear another person our entire stay there. We hiked all 5 miles of the trails, tubed the river, kayaked the river and floated the river over and over again. The deck spaces and views were amazing and our only complaint was the excessive heat limited our activities. We plan to return during a cooler season. The cabin was immaculately clean and the kitchen was exceptionally well stocked with pantry staple items. It was very hard to leave and we are already planning another visit.
We wanted complete seclusion and to be on the water. We got both. We didn't see another person the entire stay. The owners were very accommodating about our dogs. We have two big dogs and are both very well behaved. We like taking them with us when we go on vacation. Its hard to find anyone that will allow two big dogs. Our rottie absolutely loves the water. It was hard to get her to want to come out of the lake.
The property is so beautiful. And a wonderful reminder of how much God loves us. There is a cross with a bench to sit on in front of it close to the cabin. That was a nice touch. We will definitely be back again.
If you want to get the heck out of town, go here. Seclusion. Water. Views. Hiking on property. If you want a workout go down to the river 3 times a day and forget something down there that last trip. Those stairs made me and my dog feel really old. It was well worth it. My son fished most of the day, from sun up til dinner. If you or your teen likes to fish, you won’t be disappointed. He fished what seemed like countless spots just walking the trails on the bank. He spent the better part of 2 days paddling up and down as far as he could on the Kayak. We spent a rainy day on the arcade game (bring spare change, $5 in quarters lasted hours) and playing shuffle board in the loft bedroom. I should also mention with cell service at a minimum, the wifi did its job. We were able to text, email, and most importantly stream shows each night. I know it sounds bad when you have such amazing stargazing, sounds and natural beauty around you, but these are the times we live in. I know I personally want to know this specific detail before I book an extended visit. I hope there is a next time and I hope others take advantage of such a great property.
We spent 7 days at this cabin for our wedding anniversary. We were very happy with the cabin and the amenities. We used the outdoor shower every day. Only time we used the indoor shower was on a day with bad weather. The shuffle board upstairs was also a lot of fun. Kitchen had everything we needed. Since laundry facilities were available we didn't need to bring a ton of clothes. Wifi was adequate. Easy drive to Hot Springs where we visited the casino.
The weather was hot the first two days of our trip. Around 100 degrees. But we set our chairs in the shade in the river and just relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. The water was cool and crystal clear. We used hiking sticks to help keep our balance as we waded across the river.
The day we arrived the dirt road to the cabin was in tough shape. It was a challenge to get up the last hill with our SUV. On the second day the county graded the road and added gravel which made the road rather easy to drive on, but watch out if the road is wet. Mud on your tires will make it harder to get up the hill.
We fixed our own meals most of the time. Great grocery store in town. Everything else closes early including restaurants.
We didn't see a soul while at the cabin. Sitting in the river listening to birds and watching the fish was a pleasure. Just the kind of unwind time we were looking for.
We had a couple minor maintenance issues and the owner was extremely responsive. Very happy with our choice.
Really enjoyed our stay here! The outdoor bath house overlooking the creek was awesome. The cabin was stocked way better than any other VRBO we’ve rented before. Very remote but we had no visitors even tho we stayed on Friday the 13th lol! Floating the Caddo was a bonus. Will definitely visit again.
Mu daughter and I took a trip to Arkansas over Thanksgiving. This place was perfect! The owner was amazing and easy to work with. Would definitely stay here again, during the summer.
This was our second time here and it was a great as we remembered. They cabin has everything you need to enjoy your stay. The river and property give plenty of things to do and you most likely will never see another person! We will continue to visit here !
Really enjoyed the seclusion of this property! Wish we would have been able to see more wildlife. The outside bathroom was nice after getting used to being outside. Cant wait to come back to explore more!!
