Cacela Velha Fortress.
Cacela Velha and the surrounding towns were a stopover for Greek and Phoenician navigators, and according to some authors it may have once been near the location of Conistorgis, the still-unrecovered capital of the Conii. Roman and Arab occupiers also played a significant role in the expansion of the region.[1]
Archeological excavations conducted from May 7 to July 4, 2007, determined the village was the Medina of Qast’alla Daraj (Ibn Darradj al-Qastalli), an Islamic town dating back to the 10th century, when much of the Iberian peninsula was controlled by the Moors and Berbers who arrived from North Africa. Archeologists determined the area was an agricultural center, and part of the excavation recovered seven corn pits that were used for storing cereals and grain.

The room was very clean. The lighting was a bit dim in the room.
The staff were all friendly and helpful, (apart from those in the spa.)
The housekeeping staff in particular were great, very efficient and obliging.
The bar was nice and I enjoyed the special cocktail of the month.
The rooftop pool area is beautiful, though of course it would have been nice if the food and drink bar were not closed for the winter months.
The hotels location is reasonably convenient for the beach and the main A22 motorway that leads from Spain to Faro and beyond.
The TV was hard to use with a really annoying advert for Pr1me Energize every time it was switched on!
The breakfast was a bit disappointing with very little choice if cereal or eggs.
But all in all, I recommend this hotel. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Staff were excellent. Bar and restaurant very nice. Beds were sub standard. Location on beach is excellent with an elevator for convenient beach access. Cleaning staff were excellent. Nice stay all in all.
