The best area to stay in Burang County is Darchen, the primary base for those undertaking the Kailash Kora.Darchen is a small, high-altitude settlement situated at the foot of Mount Kailash. It's essentially a collection of guesthouses, small restaurants, and shops suiting pilgrims and trekkers. The main street, which runs through the centre of the village, is where you'll find most of the accommodation and services. It's the starting and ending point for the Kora, making it incredibly convenient for trekkers.Solo travellers and small groups will find Darchen perfectly suited to their needs. Its compact size means everything is within easy walking distance, and it's simple to arrange guides, porters, and supplies for the Kora. The community here is geared towards supporting the pilgrimage, offering a practical and focused base. While Darchen is the most practical option, for those looking for a slightly different experience, staying in a guesthouse in one of the smaller villages along the Kora route itself, such as Drirapuk or Zutulpuk, offers a more direct connection to the pilgrimage experience.

The best time to go to Burang County is during the warmer, drier months from May to early October. This period avoids the harsh winter conditions and the heaviest monsoon rains, making travel much more comfortable and accessible. The weather is generally more settled, with clearer skies, which is ideal for enjoying the stunning mountain scenery and outdoor activities. For those planning a pilgrimage to Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar, the window from mid-May to mid-October is particularly good. The trails are usually clear of snow, and the weather is more predictable for trekking. This allows pilgrims to complete the kora (circumambulation) in more pleasant conditions.Families travelling with children might also find this period more suitable due to the milder temperatures and better road conditions.
