Camp Brannum is Your Smoky Mountain base camp less than 5 minutes from the National Park entrance
Location: Camp Brannum Log Cabin is located next to a picturesque mountain valley horse pasture that borders the Great Smoky Mountain National Park in Bryson City, NC. This cabin is conveniently located less than 10 minutes from downtown Bryson City. Enjoy the local shops, restaurants, and breweries of the charming mountain town, or stop by and check out the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad train depot, all located in Bryson City. The Deep Creek entrance into the GSMNP is also located just outside of town, where you will find great hiking trails, 3 beautiful waterfalls, and during the Spring and Summer months, excellent tubing! The Harrah's Casino, Oconaluftee River hiking trails & tubing, the popular Mingo & Soco waterfalls, and the Sequoyah National Golf Course are all located in Cherokee, NC about 15 minutes away. You can reach the Almond Boat Dock on Fontana Lake in about 20-25 minutes for some great swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, and canoeing options! Or you can experience the exhilaration of white-water rafting, zip lining, and other adventurous excursions out in the Nantahala Gorge located about 20-25 minutes away.
Access Road: Motorcycle and Trailer accessible; Smooth Paved Road all the way to cabin, Not Steep, No Sharp Switchbacks, has a large Parking area with enough room to Turn Around MOST Trailer and Vehicle combinations. (Ask the reservation specialist about your trailer)
Exterior: The Brannum Cabin is a true Mountain Log Cabin recently renovated. The wide road leading to the Cabin is county maintained for easy access by all vehicle types. Off the main road is the large circular Gravel Driveway with plenty of space for Boat, Motorcycle or Horse Trailers. The Large Flat Front Yard is shaded by large hardwood trees and evergreens that provide privacy. An ideal spot to gather the kids around the Fire Pit to make S'mores or let them chase fire flies. If running around the yard is not your speed the Wide Front Porch is a great place to sit and enjoy the fresh Mountain air. Around to the back yard the Mountain View opens above the acers Horse Pasture. Here sets the Outdoor Hot Tub, perfectly positioned to take advantage of the Mountain View. It is a relaxing experience, after a day adventures in the Mountains, to soak in the Hot Tub while watching Horses graze and play in a pasture below Scenic Mountains. If all this relaxation has made you hungry, cook dinner under the stars on the Grill and set a place at the Picnic Table. If the weather turns unfriendly you can retreat to the shelter of the Screened Porch and still enjoy the fresh Mountain air and Scenic View.
Entry Level: When stepping through the front door, you are immediately greeted by the charm of a simpler era. The same natural ruff cut square log beams of the exterior form the interior walls. The ceiling is supported by exposed wood beams throughout the cabin. New bright recessed lighting adds a clean modern touch, though you can dim the lights to set the mood when the time is right. The first room you enter is the living room. Here a comfortable leather sofa sets next to the centrally located wood burning fireplace, hand built with locally sourced stone. Opposite the sofa and to the left of the front door, a large flat screen satellite TV is mounted to the wall. To the left of the fireplace is the door to the second bedroom. This bedroom has two twin beds and a window looking out onto front porch. Stepping around either side of the central fireplace you will enter the full kitchen and dining area. The decor of the kitchen, hammered copper farm house sink, granite counter top, Gas cook top stove and staying true to an era past there is no dish washer. Next to the dining table for both ambiance and warmth on cold winter nights is a gas log stove is positioned against the back of the stone fireplace. To the left of the kitchen is a hallway. The first door on the right is the bathroom. This room is definitely not the outhouse of the past; this room is a completely modern construction though it still retains the warm natural wood and stone colors found throughout the cabin. The large marble tiled shower has a wide glass door. The hammered copper sink is surrounded by a black granite counter top and custom-built vanity cabinet. Past the bathroom the hallway ends at a door to the master bedroom. The spacious master bedroom has a king size bed and a large flat screen TV mounted in the corner.

Quite peaceful retreat with nice view. Rolling Brook along side that added to the tranquil environment. Easy to get to Smoky Mountains and Bryson City has less hussle and bussle than Gatlinburg. Nice weekend stay. Enjoyed. Will book again.
The cabin was great. Master bed a little uncomfortable
We had to leave early because of the hurricane but we loved the 2 nights we got to stay. Top over hot tub would be nice. It rained the whole time!
bin, all the wood, the sinks,
the shower
Great rustic, cozy, privacy feel, centrally located
Enjoy little brook around property and outdoor pit. Jacuzzi views horse pasture running up the mountain. Very private non tourist feel. Cozy fireplace and had everything you need to feel at home. So many beautiful drives to various destinations in less than a 50 mile radius. Has amazing restaurants, candy shops, gifts shops within 5 miles. Can’t go wrong renting this cabin if you enjoy a rustic, homey feel.
This property was a great fit for our family! We enjoyed using the fire pit, gas grill, and the jacuzzi. We had a sweet hound dog come by and visit outside. We also saw deer, rabbits, owls and enjoyed the horses next door. Loved the screened in porch out back to keep the bugs away! We rode the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad to Nantahala Gorge, ate at a few of the restaurants in town, saw the aquarium and the train museum, and went to the Road to Nowhere. It was a fun filled trip and we made lots of memories!
The property was very private and had great outdoor areas for walking the dogs on a leash. Kitchen had everything you could want. Very cozy. We called the management company because our TV wasn't working and they came in 10 minutes at 8 pm. Very close to train and visitor center where they had dog friendly trails. Saw 23 elk up close coming off the trail. Only issue was bedroom door had to be bolted from the inside to stay shut and the bed wasn't very comfortable. But I would still come again because overall it was fantastic.
Great location and neighborhood. The cabin was warm and cozy. The hot tub was wonderful. The pear trees in the yard was a welcomed site. They are delicious. We thoughly enjoyed our stay. The only thing that was missing were steak knives. Great cabin to stay in!
Second time staying for the simple beauty and peacefulness that surrounds this cabin. From front porch coffee and sunsets, dinner and a beer in town, and fresh markets to shop make for a nice little getaway.
Beautiful and comfortable property off the beaten path in Bryson City. Still close enough to Bryson, Cherokee and GSMNP for plenty of trips in during our weeklong stay.
We used the cabin for a little time away before dad deployed. It was a great little escape. We absolutely loved the cabin and the horses right behind the propert.
Great place to get away from the daily grind. We didn’t use the kitchen….door dashed our meals instead. Camp Brannum has everything we needed though. We plan to return in the fall when it is cooler and the leaves are changing. Very easy drive to the cabin and plenty of parking spaces. Also, great shower with outstanding water pressure. Seems like you are in a secluded area but less than 5 miles are shops and restaurants.
Everything was fine. The place was ready, only three things:
Behind the house are dogs and they were coming every day to in front our house and poop.
We have only one towel floor for th shower.
The light and outlet in the kitchen around the sink and the backyard wasn’t working.
But overall everything was really good. We were happy.

Cleanliness
The carpet in the main living area was noticeably dirty and odorous. The floors were dirty; the sheets on the main bed appeared dirty and all the blankets had not been laundered in quite a while. It was cold and we needed to use blankets to keep warm. Overall I was not happy with the cleanliness of the entire cabin.
Great Place to Hunker Down for Christmas in freezing Temperatures
We enjoyed our stay! We were thankful that they provided firewood because it was very cold!! The kitchen is well equipped but it doesn’t have a dishwasher. The beds are somewhat comfortable, if you have back problems… you may struggle a little. They are very basic! The sofa and overstuffed chair was comfortable, the TVs work great! We did have trouble with some outlets in the kitchen not working and they sent a maintenance guy same day, he couldn’t fix it— they had to get an electrician out. But overall, it was a great place to hunker down. There is little cell phone service but the WiFi works great! We hope to return soon! The train ride in town was great and we drove into Asheville for dinner at the Grove Park Inn with the National gingerbread competition winners which was great to see!!

Beautiful cabin with beautiful views close to town!
As a frequent VBRO visitor I was very happy with the cabin and its amenities. Very easy to find with no steep climbs or crazy turns. The interior is a mix of old mountain charm and modern comforts. The sound from the creek as you sit on the from porch is really relaxing- would return just to hear that again. The hot tub is very new and has amazing views yet very privately situated. We arrived a little early to check in at Carolina Mountain Rentals office in downtown and was told to come back twice to get the door code as they said I could not get the address or door code til 4pm ( the address was provided when I confirmed my reservation on the app) On the plus side- we spent our time waiting around the corner from the office at Mountain Layers Brewery- great beer and atmosphere! A week before arriving I sent a message via the VBRO app to the property mgr that was never answered- need to get the technology updated. Would be far more efficient to send check in docs via email and have all this handled before check-in time and then text the lock box code at check-in time. Beautiful , cozy cabin and property despite the check in issues!
This was our first time renting this cabin but it certainly won’t be our last! It was clean & cozy & such a lovely setting (even though it rained all weekend). It felt like it was cut right out of a small town Hallmark Christmas Movie.
My husband and I spent my birthday weekend at this cabin with our two pups. We absolutely loved the cabin and the location. The pictures online don’t do it justice. We were about 20 minutes from NOC and spent Friday river rafting and enjoyed dinner in Bryson city at natahala brewing which is a short drive away. We were also able to check out deep creek winery which is about 1 mile away from the cabin! The wine, views, & staff were amazing! The cabin on the inside is super cute and rustic! And we LOVED the stream that ran alongside the house. The hot tub was amazing after a long day in the natahala river! The only thing we noticed is that the hot tub water was a little dirty upon arrival and the coffee maker wasn’t cleaned out from the last persons stay, but other than that it was amazing! I would def stay here again in the future.
Side note- bring bug spray! the nats by the stream can get pretty bad!
We enjoyed our stay at Camp Brannum! The property is well maintained and equipped with everything to meet our needs! We will definitely return on our next visit to the Great Smokey Mountains!
