The Gatekeepers Lodge provided me with the perfect accommodation. Adjacent to Dyrham Park, the property is private, extremely well presented, and sits on a country lane among beautiful old growth trees, public walkways, and is. The lodge and its grounds were recently updated to high standards. One can hear lovely birdsong in the morning and afternoon.
It is small but every inch the building is adorned with tasteful decore and excellent workmanship retaining the character of this Grade II Listed building. The Lodge has two-foot walls, a lovely private courtyard, and a great upper garden.
With modern oven and cooking hobs, an wall television with Freeview, and Boise sound system throughout the building. There is no internet or microwave. I was able to link to my cell phone and use my laptop for most things. Not having internet was actually quite nice, as I spent more time relaxing reading, walking, and enjoying the comforts of the lodge.
The bed and bedding were very comfortable and ample linens were provided. The welcome package was much appreciated. There is a small fridge in the unit and a large one is provided in the shed above the garden.
The owner replied promptly when I had questions.
This is the perfect place for a weekend retreat for a couple or an individual who relishes peace, long walks, or cycling. Or for someone that enjoys visiting National Trust properties and their well-appointed gardens. Dyrham Park itself has beautifully landscaped and well-kept gardens, herds of deer, and great walks.
If you want a taste of city life Bristol and Bath are about 15 minutes away. Lower Woods Nature/Wildlife Reserve is about 20 minutes away by car. There you will find ancient woods, rare species of plants and insects, and dazzling views from the outlook.
Thank you Jay for having me as your guest. It was perfect for my needs and I hope to comeback with my husband.
