Great location in a quirky district of Bristol close to the Old City. This makes the Brooks Guesthouse an ideal place to stay for the tourist. We chose to book into one of the roof top Airstream type caravans just for fun. As price was important to us, we booked the smallest.
The trouble is, the size was too small. There was barely space for two people to stand at the same time and no passing room. The bed was incredibly soft and the seating area so small it was taken up with our bags, so we couldn’t sit inside if we’d wanted to.
It was a fun experience, but don’t opt for this if you’re not used to camping. Despite being on the roof of a hotel, we didn’t feel part of the hotel if only using the lift and the stairs on our way up and down.
The roof terrace could do with a freshen up. There were weeds growing out of the AstroTurf and the planters contained dying plants.
On night one, the one window of the caravan fell out and down onto the ground outside. We discovered it had been stuck with silver cloth-tape to the outer body of the van. This didn’t cause us too much of an issue as the weather was warm and dry, but in the winter, this will be problematic unless the hotel gets it fixed properly. They did offer to move us to another van, but that had got damp inside and smelt bad. We turned it down when offered and stayed put as we were only there one more night.
Overall a quirky experience, but possibly not worth the money.
