The minute I walked in staff was super friendly. The room was super clean and in a beautiful spot in Vermont. The tavern was also super convenient and the food was delicious!

Rooms were clean quite staff was very friendly. Great 1 night stay. The $15 breakfast buffet was all you could eat and they kept fresh food coming out constantly.

Super easy and quick check in/out. Room and furnishings are updated and everything was super clean! Ice cold air conditioning. Comfortable Sleep Number bed in our king suite! Coffee maker wouldn’t brew, not a huge issue at all. Everything was excellent, highly recommend!

Advertised as having the attached tavern. It wasn’t open. Lobby photos are very dated. Furniture is very tired and worn. Room was tiny. Does not match photos. Bathroom was a 3 x 3 foot shower, wall attached sink without vanity and a toilet. Room did appear to be clean. No restaurant in town was open however main restaurant did have a sign on the door inviting any potential diners to their private home for a celebration. We ended up driving to Newport for dinner and just got a room there and never returned to the Essex. We didn’t unload the car at the Essex and had them hold the keys in case we didn’t come back. We chose not to do so and just forfeited the money spent on the room.

This is a cool place. Probably not for everyone's taste, it is a genuinely vintage rooming house -- a throwback to an earlier, simpler time. The owners live onsite and are extremely nice and helpful.

Guess what? upon arrival restaurant wasn't open. As was every little restaurant in town. Luckily the deli down the street saw how hungry we looked and made us a carryout salad as they were closing when we arrived. Not impressed with location, pictures and description are deceiving

This property may best support snowmobilers in the Winter, who are only seeking refuge from the cold. It ultimately seemed like a low staff issue. There was no front desk personnel upon check-in, as the young lady was also the bartender in the adjoining tavern. The ‘suite’ was home to a hodgepodge of random furniture, to include excess banquet chairs in the living room. The shower was barely large enough to close the curtain while using. There was random furniture in the hall, potential excess or looking to add to the interior yard sale. Checked out after one night, accepting the loss and cutting vacation short.

Le personnel et le propriétaire sont très gentils. C’est très propre et confortable. Le seul désagrément, c’était le bruit de la rue le matin. Mais en mettant des bouchons, c’était correct. Peut être demander une chambre qui donne sur la cour arrière serait préférable. Je suis arrivée vraiment dernière minute et ils m’ont dépanné. J’ai très bien dormi. Je le recommande.
