"The room we were given faced the water so at first we were pleased then work began in the room next door. It sounded like drilling of some kind and this continued on and off into the early evening. Even though the hotel didn't seem to be at all busy we were surprised we had been given this noisy room. The bathroom door didn't close properly as it scraped along the floor and the hooks on the back of the door for the towels fell off when I was in the shower. The breakfast was self service and there was a variety of items to choose from. The hotel was a bit tired and could do with a bit of tlc to bring it up to a higher standard."

While somewhat unassuming from the outside, this cozy property nestled in the bucolic Cape Breton countryside offered the utmost in comfort and hospitality. The proprietors, a talented husband-and-wife team (she's the restaurant's chef) and their staff were laid back, friendly and charming while also being extremely attentive to all of our needs. I have to say, though, that the dinners we had at the Chanterelle were top-notch culinary experiences! With a meat choice, a fish choice or a vegetarian choice (we chose the fish each time), this 6-course meal was perfectly balanced, imaginative without being too "out there," delicious, surprisingly affordable and was definitely the standout experience during our 3-night stay. We highly recommend the Chanterelle Inn & Restaurant, whether spending the night or just coming for dinner and would definitely stay here again."
