We really slept in a castle
Charming and cosy castle with a lot of rooms to explore. There was an endless collection of antiques. Overall very clean.

Furnishing in general rooms were fabulous. Electrical outlets in our room did not work. Person in charge brought new lightbulbs and extension cords. Wiring definite Y needs updating. Our shower had black mold. The biggest issue was guests not allowed to use eleva5or and NO help around to help older Expletive lug bags up 2 flights of stairs. Breakfast was adequate. Not recommended for any one over 50.

Was expecting a nice stay based on what we had researched. We were refused dinner the night we arrived (at 8:30pm) because the kitchen had shut down but we had been told it at check in that it was open until 10pm. Our waiter apologized profusely after telling us. He obviously didn’t know as we were seated with other guests who were eating. Our room smelled awful like something had died in the shower drain and the toilet was dirty. At breakfast the meal was not worth the cost. We were one of 3 groups that appeared to be staying. At checkout the staff was incredibly rude when I incorrectly assumed I had already paid through Expedia even after I apologized for my error. I would never recommend this place to anyone and would tell people to stay elsewhere at all costs. The pictures make it look much nicer than it was, we weren’t even sure it was open when we arrived.

At our weekly team meeting we have discussed about your review and the waiter informed us that there were no more meat dishes available the night you arrived, however, he offered you other dishes including fish dishes, but you refused all of them. We are sorry to hear that your were not satisfied with the room you were allocated and wished that you had told the receptionist, so he could have offered you another room. Regarding the breakfast, we wished you approached the breakfast staff, if you had any dietary needs. At check out, our receptionist explained to you kindly that you haven’t paid for your stay through Expedia and that you had to pay directly at the hotel. Poor service! Paying royal but you get budget
I could not order warm food anymore even though 1 hour before they said it was open till 10 pm. Chefs orders. In the morning the guy at the reception got angry because I wanted a proper invoice for my business. Very poor breakfast buffet. And my room wall I was looking at from my bed coffee stains all over that wall and pillows had dirty red food stains from previous guests. In the room no phone or anything to write on or info of the castle. Paying royal for a budget maintained castle.

Beautiful surroundings and garden but staff seems a little unskilled at what they do .. 1500 DKK for a room with no breakfast included is a bit over the top and breakfast is leaving a vast room for improvement although you wouldnt expect a sumptious buffet for 100 DKK per person .. a few other people were complaining at reception having a very bad experience .. room size, amenities in bathroom not existing .. a castle stay full of good intentions but failing a bit compared to the price charged.

Well it is an old castle - so expect it to be old.. but it was just gorgeous.. only thing I wished they had would be some fruit for breakfast.. found a few grapes next to the cheese .. but hey it was still a great breakfast... Bed was super comfy, bathroom was fine with shower, sink and toilet.. Room was large with sitting area and a nice view overlooking the lake..

Magnificent Manor, could be a lot better.
Arrived around 10pm. The guy at reception was really very nice and checked us in without any hassle, after dropping our gear in the room he made us a couple of very good G&T's. Unfortunately the 40kr snack was a bit stale. The room was quite cluttered with too much furniture, no tea or coffee making with your typical European push two singles together non-romantic double bed with separate blankets, these were quite tired and sagged, however we slept Ok. The bathroom is also looking a bit tired with a just Ok shower. Breakfast was very ordinary, I'd say quite poor in the selection and the coffee was not good. Checking out guy was polar opposite to our excellent check in person. The building and grounds are quite magnificent but the whole thing could do with a bit of TLC. On the whole given the cost for the night I could only give this hotel an average rating.

A magical stay in this beautiful castle. Restaurant was great and wandering around the grounds and inside the castle was amazing. It felt like I was living in a museum with so many beautiful antiques and period furniture. I would highly recommend to any person wishing to experience living in a palace or castle. (Australia)

A princess for a night
The hotel/castle is beautiful. They could supply a few more amenities as there is no shampoo, conditioner, coffee maker or fridge. Those items would make you feel more like a prins/princess. They couldn’t find our reservation upon checkin but luckily they still had rooms. The walls were a bit thin so I was entertained by a snorer below. The beds were very comfortable. People were yelling at the poor guy at the front desk about the internet connections being poor but I experienced no such thing. The castle is beautiful and historic and worth a visit.

Castle in rural surroundings
I would suggest staying at this hotel purely to experience ' living in a castle '. The surroundings are lush, the overall effect is at first overwhelming. The rooms are well furnished giving a feel of royalty. The rolling gardens a pleasure to stroll in. However, the building looks unkempt with paint peeling off and windows showing frayed wood. Requests for repair of soap dispenser went unheeded!

A Slot that’s pretty but that’s about it
The staff were AWOL, nobody on reception or in the restaurant and were very unhelpful and rude. The cutlery in the restaurant was dirty. The rooms are not air conditioned so were very warm. The Slot is in a lovely setting though with very pretty grounds.

Standard room does not necessary include a window! Very disappointed with hot, stuffy 4th floor room, had skylight that we could not open - staff got it open after we trudged back down to desk to complain. Manager said wedding party booked most rooms, had already started drinking so other wing could have loud /drunk guests in halls at 3 am. Also shouldn't try to get dinner until after 8 pm and be first to breakfast. We didn't notice any noise that night. Hotel has room service but no phones in room, only lift leads to storage room, but it's a pretty place and has a very good breakfast. A couple miles outside town.

Beautiful castle, but experience not great
Beautiful location and castle. Rooms were nice. The hotel staff could have done much more to make the stay pleasant. A bit of confusion on checkin, as the reception desk sign told us to go to the restaurant and then the restaurant staff sent us back to reception. I was travelling with my elderly parents, so an offer to help with the bags would have been lovely, especially considering it is quite a schlep. Also, a tour of the castle would have been great. We ended up nosing around on our own trying to find light switches in massive rooms . A film crew was onsite, so we were told we couldn't see a large portion of the grounds and had to be quiet. It made us feel unwelcome and we felt disappointed that we couldn't see it all. Overall, It felt like we were visiting a TV set and a bit of an annoyance to the staff, rather than a welcome paying guest at a hotel.

We were placed in tiny corner attic room 56 stairs up with no elevator and no windows for about $140 a night. Breakfast standard for this hotel chain. Front desk staff was short , not in stature. We were over charged on ou r bill by $80 and they recitified it but charged $10 for using a credit card which we will dispute! We are presently staying at another of the chain's hotels and they indicated that it is not the company pollicy to charge for use of credit cards!

Could have been a lot better with a little effort.
Rather old and in some places run down hotel. The cleanliness could have been a lot better. "Free toiletries" was a industrial soap dispenser on the wall.. Dinner was above average and worth the money. Breakfast was bread from the freezer and simple cold cuts from a package. The area and history of the hotel was above average and what you would call a "classical stay".

Stay in a castle
We stayed in the Queens suite and it was a fantastic and unique experience. I would (and have many times) recommend this place to friends and family...when do you get to stay in a real castle? Only thing I would say is that high-end toiletries and a real "minibar" would have made it even more special and one would expect that to be included at that level

Feel like royalty
My husband and I stayed here during a long weekend road trip and loved it so much we took our friends visiting from Australia there a couple of weeks later. Of course it's an old hotel so there are a few problems with the plumbing but the benefits of staying in a fabulous old castle outweigh those. Beautiful surroundings and lovely plush rooms that make you feel like royalty for a night. Also book for the restaurant, food was lovely and the service was great.

Beautiful hotel, awful rooms
The building and grounds are wonderful, as is Faaborg. We were given a tiny room in the attic. No bar soap or shampoo, no clock, no phone, no tissues, no washcloths, no extra pillows - but there was a tray with wine and water (that we could have purchased at great cost). The shower curtain was cheap plastic from a dollar store. Some of the furniture was broken. The room was clean-ish (except for a huge stain on the back of the bedspread). This was an expensive hotel room. NOT worth the money.

Tired property.
Room quality varies greatly and the rooms saved for the Expedia reservations are the worst in the hotel, small, on top floor with no window. We had to upgrade to get a decent room.
