The house was very spacious and fit the needs of 15 people. The kitchen worked well for all the cooks. Plenty of games in game room. Very quiet setting.
Family time is good for the soul but adding the incredible view and calming sounds of the waves was the perfect way for us to unwind from the every day grind. The house was perfect and the outside game area was an added bonus. We can’t thank you enough for sharing this incredible property with us. Rock hunting was the cherry on top for our outdoors loving family.
Had a great time. Lots of room for our group of 12 & the game room was a bonus to have on cooler nights. A lot of traffic from the neighbors but they were all very friendly. Would stay there again.
Had a great week! Upon arrival we were pleasantly surprised with the size. Everything was larger than the pics. The cleanliness was not great. Definitely bring water shoes as the beach and water is all rocks. There is a nice patch of sand for kids to play in further up from the water. Nice quiet setting with beautiful sunrises!
This house turned out to be exactly as advertised. Loved the porches and the views of the water. Lots of living space and an excellent kitchen. We were also surprised at the number of good places to eat that weren't too far away. Would definitely stay there again.
Wonderful week at a remote waterfront Lake Huron house. Bring everything you will need, as you are 30 minutes north of Oscoda and about 30 minutes south of Alpena. There is a dollar general nearby and a wonderful restaurant 10 min north but true shopping is limited. The house is spacious and located just off a rocky shore beach point with great access for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, etc. Recommend bringing drinking water as well. We stayed with 16 guests, 10 children, and had ample space. The separate barn/gameroom was a great addition with all the kids. Would happily return.

Lake side, good parking.
Inventory kinda tired. One of the kayaks couldn't be used. Ping pong table ruined. Knife condition poor.
The pictures of the house don't do it justice. It's better than the photos show. There's TONS of room. We stayed here for a week with our extended family. We had 10 adults and 8 children (6mths -12yrs). We spent the days on the beach exploring the rocks, kayaking the water, and enjoying the decks. The evenings were spent sitting around a fire and playing in the game room. There was enough room for us all to share meals in the kitchen and cook without ever feeling crowded. We were able to put the little kids to bed upstairs and still stay awake downstairs without bothering them. There is enough seating for everyone. The upstairs loft area with the pull out couches is massive. The kitchen has everything you could need when it comes to cooking. The cleaning closet was stocked with everything we needed (even though we brought all our own). There wasn't a pack n play or high chair (but we brough our own so this wasn't an issue). A quick drive down to Harrisville for ice cream, playground, and live music was nice. The nearby dinosaur park was a huge hit with the kids. Alpena was a 30 min drive away for a mid week Meijer trip. There was plenty of extra blankets to use for throw blankets while we sat on the deck in the evening. I wish I could attach photos because it seriously was the best house/location. This house had it all and has TONS of space for large groups to have their own space and still spend time together. We all agreed we would definitely be back. Love this space!
Location cannot be beaten - the lake is right there and even though the shoreline is rocky, we really enjoyed the water. We all got water shoes before arriving and that was enough to allow kids and adults to enjoy the water. We also used the paddle boat and floats - appreciated that we didn't have to bring our own!
The house was spacious! The upstairs living room was such a bonus with young kids as we could really spread out.
Great communication with the property manager and owner.
As others have shared, it's clear some of the neighbors don't like renters but as long as you follow the rules, drive slow, and mind your own business, you should be fine. The kitchen could use some larger bowls and a cookie sheet, but nothing that kept us from enjoying the house.
We had so much fun. The house is beautiful and the view everyday is breathtaking. Owner was easy to reach and everything with checking in was smooth. Lots to do with rock hunting and using all the games in the garage. Just keep in mind the water is all rocks but a beach is close by.
A beautiful site, lakeside with the rising sun. The furnishings and appliances were just fine. Four related families with pleasant accommodations. Lots of room. Although the beach, like most of Lake Huron, is rock covered that is where the children spent most of their time in various kayaks and floats.
A state park is a short drive for those needing sand. The game room was popular and provided a separate place for friendly, family competition. We had a wonderful time!
Pros:
Overall we enjoyed our stay at the house. The view and proximity to the water is absolutely outstanding. We made good use out of the kayaks and spent a lot of time rock hunting, cooked many meals in the large kitchen and had dinner together and played games at the dining table every evening. The bedrooms are all large and the beds were comfortable. The area was fantastic for birding and the neighbors were all friendly. The owner was responsive to messages. The fire pit on the beach made for scenic marshmallow roasting and late night stargazing.
Cons (and FYIs):
The internet connection is pretty bad (for anyone that might need to do remote work while at the house). The house didn’t appear to be truly deep cleaned and the game room was definitely not cleaned since the last people stayed there. Some of the amenities we were expecting in the game room were lacking. For instance, half of the bean bags for corn hole had holes in them, and the basketballs were mostly deflated. But still a lot of other toys to get into! There is also no longer a second fire pit by the game room. The biting flies were bad a couple days we were there. That’s the reality of this part of northern Michigan tho! Just be advised.
The water pressure is pretty bad, and the water very much tastes like well water so bring your own bottles if that’s not your cup of tea. We also weren't able to use the soaking tub bc the seal wasn’t airtight and allowed the water to drain before it would fill.
Note that the nearby “town” of black river doesn’t really exist. Harrisville does have a few small stores. So bring most everything you’ll need with you to the house.
Overall:
The house is big for large families, and has the MOST beautiful view of the lake, but for the price I was expecting a bit more attention to detail. But I’d consider renting here again especially if the owner addressed some of the concerns above.
The house is gorgeous. Very spacious. Fully stocked kitchen and spices. The decks are large and the beach location is perfect. It’s extremely rocky so not ideal for sunning and swimming, but perfect for searching for Petoskey stones, having a bonfire, and enjoying a book while listening to the waves hit the shore. This is our annual girls weekend. We go somewhere new each year and this house, by far, was the nicest. Large spaces for us to talk and play games each evening. We had a great time and made memories that will last a lifetime.
Beautiful setting and plenty of living space in the home. The whole family was able to enjoy all of the outside toys - kayaks, paddle boat, pool table, foosball, ping pong, corn hole games. We had a campfire every night ! Lots of memories made here!

Overall it went well
House is nicely sized for larger groups, the pole barn was a huge plus for our trip. It rained a few days on us. If you can get past the neighbors flexing their year round “resident muscle” and don’t mind a very rocky beach.. you’ll have a good time
Dishwasher was broken, toaster was in poor shape, wash cloths should be replaced ,no ping pong balls, or cue balls for pool table. Minor problems that did not prevent us from having a great time.
Our family of 9, ages 6 months to 70+ had a good time here.
We enjoyed the quiet location, the newly built home fully stocked with kitchen wares. The spacious 4 bedrooms and 2 living rooms. We enjoyed walking + biking in the low traffic area. The children enjoyed the game room everyday. We totally enjoyed our stay at the big blue house.
Overall the house is in excellent condition. We had multiple couples stay through out the week and there was no lack of space for sleeping or just hanging out. The view of the lake is excellent and we were able to hear waves every night we slept. It is a very quiet neighborhood with no road noise or disturbing interaction with surroundings. We kayaked every day and actually were able to "surf" the waves on several days just off shore. The house is only 30 steps to the water. We had a fire several nights with no one disturbing us or creating noise. We used the paddle boat and kayaks. All in good shape. We used the game room one day only, just because we preferred to be outside!
Pros: Quiet area with friendly interaction with people walking by or checking out the water. Excellent condition of the house, everything is new. Plenty of space. Cute and quiet downtown.
Cons: The high lake level has reduced the sandy beach area. Be sure and bring water shoes for swimming and water access. It would have been nice to have a few more beach chairs. The kitchen could use a few more serving type dishes, as we only found one bowl for serving.
