This home, built in 1909, beautifully blends modern amenities with historical pieces. Enjoy your time both inside the home and out, on the three layers of decks with the sounds of nearby Flat Creek. The driveway is extremely steep, but is manageable and has plenty of space at the top. There are a total of five parking spaces available. Open concept, the first level has plenty of space for entertaining, with a table that seats approximately 16 people. The updated galley-style kitchen has modern appliances and beautiful granite countertops, with a bar space connecting to the dining room for quick service. Spacious den has seating on split levels - with the television on the upper level near the hallway half bath. Spend time together on the expansive front porch in the red rocking chairs, as burgers heat up on the grill. All bedrooms are on the upper two levels of the home, with two rooms on the second floor, one leading to the deck, and four on the third floor, with access to the small top-story deck from the hall. Take your time as you venture up the stairs to piece together the story of the home and its previous occupants with the memorabilia placed on the walls. ​​​​​​​You're within walking distance to the award-winning Robert Lake Park - with a lovely creekside playground, tennis courts, a small ballfield, and an easy walking trail, Elizabeth's Path. Peruse the ethically sourced handcrafted goods at Ten Thousand Village or the area-specific items at The Montreat Store. Grab a coffee or hand-scooped ice cream from The Huckleberry and take a walk around Lake Susan, or in the summer, rent a paddle boat or go fishing. Montreat's trail system offers several hiking options from easy to strenuous and is within a few minutes' drive of the home. Venture into Black Mountain, an eight-minute drive, to enjoy the small businesses and locally owned restaurants that line the downtown streets. From pub-style Appalachian to authentic Cuban, several local coffee roasters and fantastic bakeries - Black Mountain has it all. If you've exhausted Black Mountain's offerings, travel another twenty minutes down the interstate to Asheville, where you can enjoy several James Beard-nominated restaurants and the booming beer scene. House Layout: Main Floor- Kitchen, dining table seats 16-20, TV in the living room, half bath for the commons area. Second Floor- Bedroom 1 with two Queens and a set of bunk beds and a TV, full bath connects with tub/shower; Bedroom 2 with a Queen and a full bath. Third Floor- Bedrooms 3,4,5,6 have queen beds, and there are two full hall baths. Please note: ​​​​​​​Sheets and towels are provided for your convenience. This house is dog-friendly with a $100.00 non-refundable fee per dog (maximum of two). Due to insurance regulations, there are certain breeds that are not permitted. Sorry, this home is not cat-friendly due to common allergies. During the summer Montreat Conference Season - typically June through August - the home rents weekly, and the linens will be delivered to the home in gray laundry bags. Reviewer Comments: We have stayed in Asheville many times, but this was a last minute trip and we had a larger group (3 families with young children ranging between 3 - 7 years old). We found this place, and it was great! Still convenient to Asheville, lots of great hiking spots, a great playground that the kids could walk to, and very close to the shops/restaurants in Black Mountain! The house itself was really unique with the family mementos & historical items, which were fun to learn about. We were very comfortable in the home, and had plenty of room for our group. It was a great little getaway, and we would definitely recommend! ##### Terah V. The vacation rental was spotless. I was more than happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Patricias home met all our needs for a family get-together over the Easter holiday weekend 2017\. With 6 bedrooms and an extremely large dining table, we were able to spread out and come together! It should be noted that there are a lot of steps both to the house and to all the bedrooms, so I wouldn't recommend for seniors, including senior dogs. The home was clean and well supplied, plenty of glasses, dishes, silverware, etc. My only recommendation would be to update the pots and pans (I don't feel comfortable using old non-stick pans with the coating coming off. I would prefer stainless or newer pans). We provided our own sheets and towels. The location was awesome and we walked or hiked everyday. The rocking chairs were very popular and we enjoyed the sounds of the stream out front. Overall we had an awesome visit. ##### Elizabeth H. Reviewer Comments: The house is spacious and well equipped for a family consisting of 4 couples and 4 small grandchildren! A short walk to everything in Montreat with the large community field across the creek. We used the field a great deal. Enough room for 4 cooks in the kitchen for large meal preparation. The family room is organized so that one can be in the kitchen and still be involved in other activities. The downstairs can get cold. but good heaters are available to make the temperature comfortable. This is important given the young age of our grandchildren. This was our second year in the home and we came away with the conclusion that it suits this family's growing needs comfortably. As always, Greybeard is amazing to work with! We find it helpful to preorder our organic turkey at Earthfare in Asheville ahead of time - as we travel from Missouri, Indianapolis, the Netherlands and well, Boone:). Ingles is an amazing grocery store, we never tire of the Dripolator, and the White Horse has great live music. We loved the layout of the sleeping rooms as they are well separated, allowing for privacy. The kitchen is very well equipped and had most of what we needed for Thanksgiving preparation.. The town of Montreat lovely, and very walkable, with beautiful views and hiking nearby. Black Mountain is minutes away and is a good place to spend a day looking in all the shops. We would probably not rent property again in the colder months as the single main living space was confining when everyone came inside to get out of the cold. Probably better suited for summer months when you can enjoy the porches and most people would be outdoors. ##### Emily T. The property owner was nice, professional and quick to answer any questions. The area the house is located is gorgeous as well! Relaxing hike next to a running creek right outside the front door.
