Turtle Rocks Oceanfront Inn
10/10 Excellent
"We really loved this place. The property is in the most amazing spot you can imagine, ya know, if you can imagine a sprawling view of the Pacific Ocean replete with rock formations and wildlife perfectly complemented by the lovely coastal landscape. The largest rock in perfect center view is home to an entire community of California Sea Lions! They play in the water and hoot and holler most hours of the day and it’s incredible! One of the coolest things I’ve ever seen and heard. Breakfast was super good and lots of snack options. I suppose it was great that the room was beautiful and fresh, but we would have been happy if it were a broom closet with how wonderfully the property delivered. We miss it already."
"The cabin was comfortable and pleasant. Just make sure you have anything you may need to eat or to drink with you since they provide breakfast but we could not see any convenience store or supermarket really close by. "
"Parking assigned in front of the Cabin, Kitchen small but clean and serviceable for our requirements. Staff was quite helpful at check in and provided excellent recommendations for dinner options close by. "
"We stayed for 4 nights at this lovely home in Orick while visiting the Redwood’s, and loved it! If you are looking for peace and quiet, and views for days, this is the perfect spot! Bring your food, there’s no real options in that area, but we knew this ahead of time and stopped at Costco in Eureka on our way up. The lack of restaurants was more than made up for by the location. There’s a beach just at the end of their road that became maybe our favorite part of the vacation. It’s stunning and we had the entire beach to ourselves the 4 times we went over there. And we saw seals just chilling on the sand (with babies) two evenings in a row. The house is great, clean and nice and had great views of the green pasture and surrounding mountains and cows (no smell, just pretty views). Just at this house we saw deer, frogs, rabbits, birds, hummers, flowers and of course horses and cows. This house was the absolute perfect spot to head right into Praire Creek SP or Redwood’s NP, still a drive to the other two, but a beautiful drive!! The hosts were so welcoming and super responsive, though we only had one question (yes, they had a cooler available to borrow), otherwise we had everything we needed for our family of 4 (parents and two young adult sons). The hosts had lots of extra touches - spare rain ponchos, fooseball, corn hole, internet and tv, a high quality gas powered barbecue, all the kitchen supplies needed, and lots of chairs for relaxing inside and out."
"It would have been nice to have some whales out by the seastacks, and paper towels and a days worth of coffee on site. Other than those minor inconveniences, the stay was amazing and the view was priceless."
"Everything about our stay was excellent, but the best part by far was Tyler, the innkeeper. Kind, attentive, excellent communication and an amazing chef. We loved having breakfast with the other guests each morning, sharing delicious food and stories of our respective adventures in the redwoods. The ocean views are incredible and the bed was extremely comfortable. 10/10. "

2/10 Terrible
"Reserved #5- I had to stop along the drive two times to remove unleashed dogs that were laying in the driveway. Later I found out one of the helpers had her hand bandaged because she had been bit by one of those dogs. The grass was overgrown, dismantled boats and cars and buckets of trash were around the property. I'm elderly so I depend on railings which was broken. When I go inside I see trash, dirty clothing and someone sleeping in the bed. a person comes out of #3 without a shirt on and says he's the manager and wants to know who I am. I tell him I'm a guest and he seems surprised and starts asking where I placed my reservation. He ends up saying that it will take about two hours to get #5 ready. I state I really need to get settled now and he says I can be at #2. I go to number two - there is no sheets, no pillows, no blankets and no towels, no paper towels, no plates, no cups, no coffee maker and no two beds. Worst off there was NO HOT WATER - he says he has to buy propane. After the propane still no hot water so they move me to #1 which was cleaner than the others. There was NO Wifi, no television no internet. I had to go outside in the rain to use my phone. It was so cold, I used my sleeping bag to keep warm. The pond on waterfall were drained. stayed for one night and left to check into a place that had adequate heating, hot water, WiFi, coffee maker two beds and cooking supplies. This did not live up to what was advertised"
