Let this place be a memory that you will relive for years to come and possibly return to again like so many of our guests. Mont Joie is a charming 15th Century stone house located in the heart of the village of Beynac, listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France. The chateau at Beynac is on the top of a 500-foot cliff and the village houses are positioned below - providing privacy and spectacular views from one side of the house, and village life on the other. Extraordinary views of the magnificent Dordogne river and the Valley of the Five Chateaux present themselves from each level. The front door opens directly from the cobblestone streets - just steps from our private and unique parking grotte - into the main room of approximately 60 sq. meters. Honey-colored stone walls, stone tile floor, ancient wooden beams, and a huge medieval fireplace set the tone for this main floor. A fully equipped kitchen with granite countered cooking area is built into one of the old fireplaces. Antique carpets and leather seating offers a comfortable area to relax, listen to the stereo or view English satellite television on the 42” curved panel television. The large dining table suitable for seating up to 6 diners is next to the window offering spectacular views of the river, the sunset, and the colorful montgolfiers (hot air balloons) drifting by at dawn and sunset most days in season. Down the stone staircase is the Master Bedroom with an ensuite bathroom combining modern fixtures with stone walls. A King-size bed with a Tempurpedic mattress, reading lamps, desk, and a large private full-width balcony with loungers, barbeque and dining table for 4 make this room the ideal spot to relax with a glass of wine to admire the view. On this same level, there is a very small bedroom with bunk beds for children, which is especially convenient for parents who want their young children to sleep nearby but in a separate space from the master bedroom. One floor down, the old merchant's storeroom now is the second large bedroom, again with stone walls, an ancient beamed ceiling, and a river view. This room also has a king-size bed. An ensuite bathroom, and a full laundry room with a washer and dryer complete this floor. Because neither bedrooms are in the attic, and the thick stone walls offer a cooling insulator against the hot Dordogne summers, we sleep comfortably cool all summer long, many times with a duvet cover. Another floor down brings you to a flagstone terrace with a grape and wisteria arbor for a shaded sitting area and a few steps down, the stunning swimming pool area (Open May 1-Oct 31) - with panoramic views and full access to the sun. Take in wonderful views of the river from both terraces and views of the Chateaux of Fayrac, Castelnaud, Lacosse, and Marqueyssac. Eat, drink and be merry. Mont Joie is truly a destination in itself. Many of our guests return each year and plan their whole vacation around their stay at this property. So pack your bags and experience the true French joie de vivre. Please note: If you have mobility issues or concerns please contact the owner. Attention: If Mont Joie is booked for your desired dates or if you are traveling with a large group and need more space, consider booking Mont Joie's sister-house, Maison Delluc, next door with 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and similar jaw-dropping views (https://www.vrbo.com/3763087). An original 17th c. noble house, Maison Delluc has been fully restored and is available for the first time in 2024. I was expecting a great house based on all of the other reviews, but even they did not do it justice. What a superb home, with a billion euro view! A true 500 year old house with 21st century comforts. Thank you Vincent for sharing Mont Joie. And thank you Martine for all you do. We are sure to return to this wonderful area and house! ##### Nancy C. Located in the village while very private, with a pool and beautiful views of the river. The street is extremely charmy with the roads and houses in the same stone, looking as a picture from a very french village movie. There are a few shops walking distance with everything you need as well as restaurants and coffee/ice cream/sandwiches shops. It is a great location to visit the region. An absolute jewel. ##### Yoya C. It was a wonderful experience from check-in to check-out. It is simply the best location in Beynac with lovely views and the home is comfortable and well equipped. Imagine the comforts of home combined with the charm of a 15th century building! Beynac is the ideal spot to use as a home base to see the Dordogne, and Mont Joie is the place to stay. ##### Tori O. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Tom C. 14 May 2024 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### New Favorite Destination The property exceeded our expectations. From the charm of the home, its beautiful views from the balcony, and the personal touches like the welcome basket and bottle of wine. While our French was lacking, Martine was very accommodating, friendly, and so helpful. Great restaurants and shoppes nearby. We left Beynac with hopes of returning someday, such a wonderful experience. ##### Tom C. We felt so welcomed and Martine who managed our stay was wonderful and very friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our week here with our friends and walked up to the chateau, which was quite a steep climb but well worth it. A must is a meal at the restaurant called Le Petitie Tonnelle - and Andrea was the perfect hostess. We loved the food and the atmosphere so much we ate here twice! Beautiful surroundings and I would recommend this amazing medieval house. Very clean and it has everything you would possible need. ##### NIkki R. The home is charming with wonderful views directly over the river and up to several nearby castles. The location is fantastic, near many wonderful gardens, caves, markets, and restaurants. Beynac is a beautiful village. Vincent and his family (owners) and Martine (local representative) all were extremely helpful and welcoming and responded quickly to our questions/requests. The house, including kitchen and laundry, were very well equipped, and the welcome basket a lovely and very useful extra. We hope to come again. ##### Michael B. Stayed 14 nights in May 2024 ### 8/10 Good #### John G. 12 Sept 2023 Liked: Cleanliness, communication, location Disliked: Check-in #### our recent stay There is no question that the outstanding aspect of the property is the view from the balcony-truly exceptional. We believe that the description of the property should indicate that it is spread over 5 levels and that the path to the "apex"/door is very steep after the first 60mtrs and very demanding for those with heavy luggage and shopping. ##### John G. The home is just as pictured. Great dining room with incredible views, plus lower patio with chairs/table for 4 and bbq and two loungers, plus lower/lower level with outdoor space. Super fun home and so much love was put into it. Vincent is extremely responsive and Marine will meet you to show you the home and get you settled. We truly enjoyed the home and having Martine available if needed was an added benefit. I would highly recommend this home to anyone that does not have issues with climbing stairs. Excellent all around. ##### Keith O. The house is well set up and Martine and Andrea were very helpful. The supplied guide was an excellent source of info. Beynac is a great base to explore the Dordogne. We enjoyed visiting Château de Baynac, Gouffre de Padirac, Lascaux and Rocamadour. We spent 4 nights at Mount Joie and would have loved to spend even more time in the Dordogne, enjoying Mont Joie and Beynac. A highlight was having our apéritif on the balcony, taking in the beautiful Autumn view, each afternoon. Beynac and Mont Joie are very special, thank you for a wonderful stay. ##### Julia M. We had a fantastic time at Mont Joie! The view from the living room is spectacular, and the village is beautiful. We found the kitchen well stocked and easy to use. The bedrooms were perfect, and drinking wine on the balcony as we watched the sunset was a delight. Martine is a treasure! She was kind and helpful and full of good humor. Mont Joie is a perfect base from which to explore enjoy the Perigord. A big thank you to Vincent! We especially appreciated your detailed instructions about arrival, parking, local shops, and a user's guide to the house itself. Your suggestions about markets, restaurants, and excursions were all excellent. We recommend staying at Mont Joie enthusiastically and unreservedly! Stay for at least a week! ##### Benjamin R. The stunning views of the rolling hills and picturesque landscapes were nothing short of breathtaking. Waking up to hot air balloons floating by in the early morning was a real spectacle, adding magic to every day. The villa itself is a perfect blend of ancient charm and modern comfort. Its spacious rooms and beautiful décor instantly made us feel at home. Old world with updated amenities to the mediaeval charm, enhanced the experience while maintaining the villa’s historic character. Nestled on the mountainside just below the rebuilt Château de Beynac, this location offers stunning vistas, but be prepared for a hike up and down the charming cobblestone streets—good walking or hiking shoes with good traction are a must! The private pool was a real treat, offering us a peaceful retreat to cool off and relax in the warm afternoons. And for those who love a bit of adventure, we even took up the challenge of driving up the very narrow street to park in the dedicated spot across from the villa. Not for the faint of heart, but absolutely worth it! This was a truly unforgettable experience, and we are already dreaming of our next visit- thank you Vincent for all your help! We highly recommend this villa to anyone looking for a magical escape in the heart of France. ##### Yani D. Of course, the views are amazing from all three levels. Really, nothing compares to throwing open the windows of the dining room and watching the boats float by with castles and countryside stretching in all directions. The whole house beautifully combines the medieval feel of Beynac with modern amenities like an excellently stocked kitchen and awesome shower in the main bedroom. Of course, the kids loved the pool. It’s just big enough to cool off & have fun. We found the daily hike up & down the hill helped balance all the treats from the neighborhood boulangerie. We were well-prepared by the host’s guide provided in advance -- one of the most thorough I’ve ever seen and incredibly helpful. The communication with owner & onsite hosts was excellent throughout. Martine was a cheerful, helpful welcome after 17+ hours of travel and she set us up with dinner at La Petite Tonelle right down the hill. It was amazing! The meat dishes were exceptional and I could have eaten the vegetarian menu every day. We had good experiences at all the town restaurants & cute shops. We loved meandering the picturesque paths in the morning or dusk while also being close to other area sites & convenient to Sarlat for Sunday groceries when needed. ##### Verified traveller Stayed 6 nights in Jun 2023 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Diane B. 10 Jul 2024 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### A "Most Beautiful" Dream Come True! Ever since we stayed at Vincent's sister property in Beynac-et-Cazenac some years ago, we've wanted to return and enjoy the Million Euro View! We spent a week at Mont Joie in June and it was a dream come true. Vincent was again very helpful and responsive. His orientation guide is worth its weight in gold. The house is supremely comfortable and beautiful. And that view! I could sit and gaze at it from the covered balcony forever. If you awake early enough, you can see the hot air balloons fly overhead. We really appreciated the separate washer and dryer (that really does get clothes dry). The weather was a bit cooler than expected, but we had no need to use the heat as the thick stone walls kept the place comfortable. We gave the parking grotto a try, and it is doable, but just a little more hair-raising (driving a Mini Cooper) than we were comfortable with so we opted to park in a municipal lot with no trouble at all. The Village of Beynac-et-Cazenac itself is the most beautiful spot in all of the Dordogne (in my humble opinion after three visits to the area). And that's really saying something because the Dordogne region itself is the most beautiful natural landscape in all of France (imho, after 11 visits to France.) The views from the top over the river and valley are spectacular, and the view of the town from below is awe-inspiring. The steepness of the streets is quite manageable and part of the charm. We highly recommend Mont Joie! ##### Diane B. There are not enough words to describe this lovely part of France. We have been to France many times but this area is amazing. Mont Joie exceeded all expectations. A beautiful property set above the Dordogne where we were provided all amenities and more. We were able to relax and enjoy our time together. Martine is a joy, she helped us in so many ways! We highly recommend this area and Mont Joie. We will be back! Merci to Vince and family for sharing your lovely home with us. Au revoir for now, Mike and Peggy ##### Mike and Peg H. Parking was not really an option but we managed using the public parking lot. Those who stay need to prepare to climb hills.😀 ##### Gay G. It is very well equipped and maintained. The welcome basket was an added bonus. Andrea and Martine were very accommodating in our arrival and departure. The walk up to the Chateau is a series of postcard picture opportunities of both the stone buildings and the spectacular views. We were very fortunate to be staying in the Mont Joie, which is a beautiful stone house with a view over the valley which almost doesn’t seem real. From this base there are many sites and activities that are easily accessible. Our recommended activities included taking a shuttle from Beynac to Vitrac and canoeing back to Beynac down river with a sop at La Roc Gageac for lunch and a walk through the beautiful village and gardens. Also highly recommended is an evening hot air balloon ride that can also be accessed from a shuttle at the Beynac village parking lot. Saturdays it is also highly recommended to go to the market in Sarlat la Caneda. Anther day excursion could be a drive ti Padirac to experience the caves and continue to the spectacular Rocamadour. Park at Hospitalet and take the pathway down to the touristy village and then take the hike up the former pilgrimage past the church of the black Madonna. ##### jean-christophe i. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Baptiste H. 11 Aug 2021 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Très bon séjour Très bien situé pour visiter le Périgord noir, maison spacieuse et fonctionnelle.
