    About this property

Cozy Converted Barn on Secluded 6.5 Acres

    Family-friendly holiday home in Bennington
Spend the month, week or weekend in a beautiful rustic converted barn on 6.5 very private sunny country acres with southerly long-range views of Mt. Anthony and the Bennington Monument (Stays of 2 or more weeks are progressively discounted depending on the length of the stay. Contact owner for these prices as they may not be reflected in the quote given). Wander the park-like trails through 4 acres of old apple orchard and woodland. Why get a bed and breakfast when you can have a house and land all to yourself? This vacation rental is located in southwestern Vermont, less than 12 minutes from downtown Bennington (but still feels very quiet and secluded). Pick apples, bird-watch, and view other wildlife like deer, grouse, wild turkeys, rabbits, Lynx, and Bob-cats. Excellent fly fishing on the nearby Battenkill river. Attend the summer horse shows in nearby Manchester. Enjoy the world-famous Vermont fall foliage. Watch the flowers bloom in the spring. Ski or snowshoe in the winter. Enjoy a bon-fire in the back-yard. Five major ski areas are located within an hour's drive. House is fully furnished and has slate shower, bear-claw bath tub, gas cooking stove, microwave, refrigerator, dish washer, cable, DVD/VCR, and wireless internet, plus two wood stoves and free wood to keep you warm at night (There's also central air heating and a portable air-conditioner if needed). There's a large downstairs master bedroom with its own gas stove/fireplace for ambiance and extra heat. There is a living room, dining area, and another small room that could sleep 2 with large electric blowup mattress on site. A spiral staircase leads up to a large loft with a full-sized spring mattress futon. There's also a love seat that pulls out into a double size bed. The barnhouse was actually part of a large picturesque Vermont farm just up the dirt road (and view-able from parts of the property) until it was rolled down on logs and converted into a house some years ago. *** Although the website lists my cancellation policy as "no refund" this is not quite true (It's just that none of the other options I was given matched my actual cancellation policy). Please refer to the "Generic Rental Agreement" pdf that you will be able to view once you start the booking process (and must agree to before making payment) for details on my cancellation policy. *** Contact me for additional information on steep discounts for stays of 2 or more weeks. A great experience with a secluded atmosphere

The converted barn was lovely. Lars (the owner) left clear notes that explained exactly how to operate everything, so my wife and I had no issues. The barn is far enough away from town to feel fairly secluded, but it is also close enough that running out for food was not a chore. The trails around the property were well maintained. We weathered a bad nor'easter during our stay, and despite the fact that the storm brought down a large willow tree in the front yard, the barn was fine. Nothing was damaged. We really enjoyed our time, and we would not hesitate to visit again someday.

            Great place to stay

The property was excellent. This is a great place to clear your head and relax. The evenings are quiet and dark which makes for excellent sleep. The barn itself was very roomy but cozy. The furniture is also very comfortable which I have not found in a lot of vacation rentals. I did not speak directly with the property owner as I had no need, but he let's you know he is available when needed. I highly recommend this place if you stay in Vermont. Also the local grocery stores are well stocked and have everything you need.

It was just what we needed! The entire family loved the home. Great yard for the kids and our dog whether it was just running around or checking out the trails. So many comfy outdoor chairs and benches to hang out on and just read! House had everything we needed. Our 13 yo had the pull out sofa which he thought was super comfy and our 11yo had the futon. She loved the futon and the upper loft area. Smaller spiral stairs can make it tough on anyone with knee problems (sigh, that's me) but that didn't stop any one. I grew up just up the road from Lars home and I have to say- this was a hidden gem!
