Over the years, we found that the lower level kitchen was essentially never used, so we focused on the kitchen in the upper level. 2. I consider the "kid's room" to be the room with the double bunk beds. The other room is just an over flow room for very large groups. 3. Screens are used to improve air circulation negating the need for costly and environmentally damaging air-conditioning. 4. The codes do work. Did you contact Oscar about them? Sorry you had some difficulty.

This was a terrible and unfortunate event. However, the house has two lockable gates and a perimeter wall. The back porch is only reachable by scaling a significant gap from an outside stairwell. This guest admitted that the gate and doors were left unlocked. Undoubtedly this facilitated the robbery. Nevertheless I am installing remote access perimeter cameras and plans were already in the works to replace the screen door to the deck with a solid glass one.

As I told this guest, I am very glad your son is okay, and that is the most important thing. I am not a callous person and I have 4 children of my own, but there is nothing wrong with the pool. If a child decides to throw himself backward over a 6 inch thick pool wall, there isn't much anyone can do. With a wall that thick, one has to intentionally launch themselves backward, and yes, that raises the issue of judgement and supervision. Costa Rica is a very steep country with lots of opportunities to injure yourself without proper care. There are pools everywhere that are cut out of cliffs where one would be killed were they to launch themselves backward. I also think about the above ground pools in the US which have an inch thick railing and how much easier it would be to accidentally fall backward over those. My wall is much thicker. My pool and pool deck also have many lights. Please look at the pictures of the pool and judge for yourself. I have rented this home for 5 years and have had probably thousands of guests, and nothing like this has happened before.

I would just like to point out that in most of Costa Rica, roads aren't paved or lit, nor do roads have signs and properties don't have street numbers. I agree it is daunting to try to find a place in a new country in the jungle in the dark. However, I send to all my renters directions with the GPS coordinates of the home, and photos of the important intersections. I have also painted a large toucan at the turn off to the house. This is the first I hear of anyone having difficulty finding it.
