Lace up your walking shoes and explore the stunning countryside surrounding Rodsley along some of the many public footpaths. The walk to Osmaston through Shirley Woods is a particular beauty, and with a drink at the local pub when you get there. Nearby, the Yeaveley Estate offers countryside pursuits including clay pigeon shooting. Longford Lakes is the perfect destination for any avid angler and Wheelwright’s Cottage sits on cycle route 68, popular with cyclists. For golfers, Ashbourne and Brailsford Golf clubs are within a 5-minute drive and the renowned Kedleston Park Golf Club is 15 minutes away. At nearby Darley Moor, you will find a WW1 Tiger Moth which is available for pleasure flights from April until October.
Wheelwright’s Cottage is within a few miles of several very good gastro pubs. The owner is familiar with all of them and very happy to provide advice or help with table reservations. The market town of Ashbourne lies four miles to the west and is bustling with bars, restaurants and independent shops as well as supermarkets. Beyond Ashbourne, take a leisurely stroll along the nearby trails, such as the Tissington Trail or at Dovedale and soak in the natural beauty of the Peak District National Park. If you’re an adventure enthusiast, you’ll find plenty to do in the area. Engage in exhilarating activities such as cycling, horseback riding, or even hot-air ballooning to appreciate the breath-taking views from above. Further afield, don’t miss a visit to Alton Towers, Chatsworth House or the stunning Heights of Abraham, a hilltop park with caves and a cable car ride. There are many eateries around this location consisting of pubs, cafés and restaurants to serve all appetites.
