The walk to Osmaston through Shirley Woods is a particular beauty, and with a drink at the local pub when you get there. Longford Lakes is the perfect destination for any avid angler and Wheelwright’s Cottage sits on cycle route 68, popular with cyclists. Wheelwright’s Cottage is within a few miles of several very good gastro pubs. The owner is familiar with all of them and very happy to provide advice or help with table reservations. The market town of Ashbourne lies four miles to the west and is bustling with bars, restaurants and independent shops as well as supermarkets. Beyond Ashbourne, take a leisurely stroll along the nearby trails, such as the Tissington Trail or at Dovedale and soak in the natural beauty of the Peak District National Park. If you’re an adventure enthusiast, you’ll find plenty to do in the area. Engage in exhilarating activities such as cycling, horseback riding, or even hot-air ballooning to appreciate the breath-taking views from above. Further afield, don’t miss a visit to Chatsworth House or the stunning Heights of Abraham, a hilltop park with caves and a cable car ride.
