Incredible mountain scenery in the heart of Norway, and a municipality that aims to become the best place in the country for nature lovers.

A holiday in Åndalsnes will give you access to Norway’s best mountain scenery in the home of Trolltindene, Vengetindene and Romsdalshorn. Discover the mountains on foot, from a train window or simply enjoy the view from a cosy restaurant in town.

The town lies at the bottom of Romsdalen and is an important cruise ship port, busy with tourists in summer. Åndalsnes is a centre for mountain sports, which makes it a great place to discover the surrounding nature on skis in winter and on foot in summer. The area also offers plenty of opportunities for fishing in mountain streams and in the sea. Several festivals take place here during the summer, so why not plan your weekend trip around one of them?

Don your hiking boots and head for Rampestreken with its stunning views, then continue on to Romsdalseggen. A train ride on Raumabanen, which terminates in Åndalsnes, gives you a chance to experience the spectacular scenery around you. In Trollveggen, the more adventurous can go climbing or BASE jumping. In Tindesenteret you can try out the climbing hall, see the exhibition or eat at Spiseriet.

The popular mountain hikes are well signposted and safe, but shorter routes are available for more nervous walkers – it can get quite windy up there! Remember to bring good walking boots and warm clothes, and choose a hike to suit your fitness level. If you would like to hire a boat to go fishing, remember to book in advance.

When travelling to Åndalsnes, you can either drive or take the train. From Oslo it takes 5 hours and 45 minutes by car, from Trondheim, 4 hours and 45 minutes, with car hire available at both international airports. You could also leave the car behind and enjoy the journey to Åndalsnes by train.

Åndalsnes is popular with many tourists, both foreign and Norwegian. The area is spectacular in many ways and well worth a visit, whether you want to get close to nature or enjoy the mountain views from a distance.
