  • Enjoy this cozy historic cabin retreat located 2 to 3 blocks from 3 ski lifts, restaurants and nightlife (Jack Sprat, the Bake Shop, Alpenglow coffee shop, and the Sitzmark). Has everything your family or group needs for a great getaway. Buckle up on the front porch steps, the groomed cross country ski trails are a 2 block ski out your front door. The Girdwood Brewery is only a 4 block walk; Chair 5, the Mercantile and other 5 restaurants are a 15 minute walk.
    This 60's chalet is truly in its original vintage state. Original 60's furnishings in mint condition and new beds make for comfortable living.
    A Renovation to the amenities made for even more comfort: new radiant floor heat throughout (nice and toasty on your feet); New gas oven/range for preparing gourmet meals; new clothes washer/dryer; and a new second bathroom in the master bedroom with a custom tile shower built for two.

Myself (Kenai resident), a college friend his son and 2 grandsons (all South Carolinians), stayed there. Two rooms allowed for single complete privacy and the remaining room sleeps 4. It was very adequate for our gathering. Much to do in Girdwood (Crow Creek trail, Virgin Falls, Double Musky) and much more nearby (Portage, Whittier, Williwa Trail). We took the guided jet ski trip out of Whittier which was awesome. Debra & Jeremy were pleasant and easy to communicate with. We enjoyed our stay and were very comfortable staying there. Really quality mattresses.

Location was excellent, easy to get to the lifts or into town. The hosts were very responsive whenever we needed anything. Check-in and out were a breeze. We’d definitely stay here again.

The house is exactly as described. The bunks beds were very comfortable as were the queen beds. Hot tub was great. We enjoyed our three day stay and would book again. Hosts were very quick to respond to our questions.

Excellent Time!

This Groovy location was perfect for our family. It’s pretty much a straight shot to the Sitz and in a great neighborhood for taking a walk. The house has a really fun, throwback vibe, and while It’s an older house, it needs to be for this Groovy feel. And it embodies the spirit of old Girdwood which is a HUGE thumbs-up . The kitchen is small, but it never seemed to be an issue as it opens right up into the great room. The hot tube is why we chose this property, and it didn’t disappoint; it was private and like tubbing in the woods under the stars. The hosts were fantastic, easy to reach (not that we really needed to), and had good communication. Plenty of towels, pillows, TP, trash bags, kitchen items, accessories that are always needed. We had a great time with our older kids (16, 19, 22), but I can see this place being great for all ages. I think this will be our new “go-to” place when staying in Girdwood. Thank You!

The hosts were fantastic and super on top of it and friendly! This place was off the hook for a ski trip and great retro ski vibes! Super close to the lifts you can easily walk, has a great set up for ski chalet, and hot tub and steam shower were fantastic! In a great spot in Girdwood and a wonderful gem that anyone spending some time at Alyeska should definitely take advantage of! We are from Juneau and have been coming north to ski for years, but wish we had found this place sooner!

Girdwood VRBO

Very pleasant surroundings, the owners were quick to help when needed and the VRBO was everything we needed for our family of 10. We were greatly appreciative of the location and facilities! Very nice atmosphere and quite large.

Just What We Were Looking For!

We enjoyed our comfortable stay at the Groovey Chalet. Easy to book and the home owners were very responsive. Love the area, very convenient! Only thing missing from my wish list was a usable washing machine, however the local laundromat was pretty awesome!

Wonderful place! No issues!

This house was an absolute pleasure to stay at with plenty of room for a family with kids to spread out and have a good time. Everything in the house was fully stocked from extra towels, blankets, to all types of kitchen ware. The stream shower in the master bedroom was a dream especially after skiing. The fireplace was nice and cozy. The house is on a charming street in Girdwood. Our family will definitely be going back for another ski trip in the future! The owners are very accommodating and kind, their responses were always timely. Thank you again for everything!

Great stay...clean building...furniture a little outdated, but to us that was the charm of the place. Only small issue was hot tub...it was cloudy and low on chemicals...but overall we loved the place and the hosts did a great job!!

We loved the quirkiness of the Girdwood Groovy home! The retro decor was so fun and authentic. The hot tub was an added bonus after a day of hiking! Communication was great and the whole process was seamless. The location ws perfect. It was a perfect launching point for our AK trip. Thank you for hosting us!

Feb 2020 Ski trip

Wow! all the comforts of home. They really prepare for your stay. Fire wood ready to go, all the dishes you need, lots of spices and even food to add to your dishes, outdoor grill ready to go and best Keurig I've ever seen :) The steam shower truly helped with recovering these old bones for the second ay of skiing. Loved the theme of the home, original left from builder. Wouldn't change a thing, except needs more icy hot LoL! Owners even helped out exceptionally when I thought I left my keys behind. Thank you guys!

Absolutely great stay.

Property was exactly as listed. It was stocked with everything you might need. Town of Girdwood had a really cool vibe that went along with the vibe of the chalet. Steam shower was amazing.
