From Altoona, Orlando is 35 miles (56 kilometers) to the southeast, and Tampa is 85 miles (137 kilometers) to the southwest.
From big-ticket tourist hotspots to lesser known gems, Central Florida is wonderfully endowed with fabulous things to see and do. Make tracks to Mount Dora, and visit the Lake Dora and Country Club of Mount Dora. Mount Dora is roughly 11 miles (18 kilometers) from Altoona is a good place to spend a little time. Another idea is to head to Leesburg. It is 18 miles (29 kilometers) from Altoona and is home to the Venetian Gardens and Lake Griffin State Park.
About 30 miles (48 kilometers) to the southeast of Altoona is Winter Park, a regional center where you'll find Virginia S. Nelson Rose Garden, Winter Park Village and Casa Feliz Historic Home Museum. Cornell Fine Arts Museum, Rollins College and Full Sail University are also good places to visit.
Don't leave the area without getting a bird's-eye view. There are a number of great places to try hot air ballooning.
