Retazos Eco Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"Great little sanctuary within the city. The property is large with surrounding walls so it is quiet apart from birds and nature sounds despite being in the city. The room was so cute and ac worked very well. No hot water but you definitely don't need it in Iquitos. The breakfast was very good and served to your door - bread with jam, eggs, plantains, fresh juice, and coffee."

CASA BLANCA HOTEL

10/10 Excellent

"So it’s not right next to central Iquitos, but that doesn’t matter. Central is a quick moto taxi ride for very cheap, or a 15-20 minute walk. What matters to me is how nice this place was. Iquitos is a rowdy town. It’s lively with a lot of hustle and bustle. This property is not: it is serene. I loved it so much, I ended up staying an extra night. It’s calm, relaxing, and downright beautiful. Right when you walk in, you are met with a beautiful courtyard that centers a gorgeous pool. There’s a small bar and restaurant, excursion services, and a 24 hour service concierge. My bed was comfy and the hotel is quiet and filled with beautiful flowers and trees and plants (yes inside the hotel). Will stay again 100%. Ps. The staff were all incredible. Such cool people!"

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to go to Alto Nanay?

The best time to go to Alto Nanay is during the dry season, which typically runs from June to October.

During these months, the river levels are lower, making it easier to navigate the waterways for excursions and increasing the chances of spotting wildlife along the banks. The weather is generally more predictable with less rainfall, which is ideal for hiking and exploring the rainforest without the inconvenience of heavy downpours. The drier conditions also contribute to more comfortable temperatures for outdoor activities.

For those interested in wildlife photography or birdwatching, the dry season offers clearer skies and better opportunities to observe animals as they gather around more limited water sources.
