It is clear that the owners of this old hotel are working hard to renovate it.
The beer garden and breakfast room were particularly nice and of a high standard. The curry we had from the restaurant was delicious and service was fast. The breakfast was also really good and great service, would be nice to order coffee with food rather than self-service, especially during pandemic.
Unfortunately, the rest of the hotel let the stay down - the room we stayed in was unfinished and the ceiling leaked when it rained. The hallways and staircases were dilapidated and smelt musty. The bar and restaurant had music channels playing via TV which didn’t add to the ambience and would have been inappropriate if children were present. We actually turned the TV off as we preferred silence - worth bearing in mind, a stereo with background music would be better.
We paid £175 for one night and did expect a higher standard. The hotel felt neither modern nor haunted.
I fully appreciate that renovations are underway so expect these things will arrive in future.
