With its strong stone walls and elevated position, it's removed enough to observe the activity below but close enough to feel part of it all. It is both homely and elegant—a palette of slate and oak, dressed with Welsh woollen blankets and warmed by a woodburning stove—ready for friends and family to gather. The glazed archway in the well-equipped open-plan kitchen-diner looks out to the immensity of the North Sea and a spellbinding coastline stiff with magic. The dramatic ruins of 14th-century Dunstanburgh Castle loom to the north. The mezzanine floor adds to the airy ambience but also, usefully, provides an additional upstairs lounge area. The main lounge, downstairs, with its woodburning stove, Smart TV, wifi, and Sonos speakers, provides the perfect space for a cosy evening in with loved ones. There's also a handy utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer. Upstairs there are three roomy bedrooms, all with luxurious super king-size beds and one with useful zip and link system that converts it into two twin beds. A combination of Egyptian cotton, hypo-allergenic duvets and Melin Tregwynt woollen blankets will spoil you for anywhere else. Every bedroom has an ensuite shower room with toasty underfloor heating. There's air source central heating throughout Middlerigg; the perfect foil for any chilled winds brought in by the North Sea. If you're not a weather watcher already, you will inevitably become one while at Middlerigg. Watch as the seascape constantly repaints itself. When the sun shines, the glazed archway doors of the kitchen-diner lead to a patio seating area, where you can sit and watch not only the weather but turnstones pick through the bladderwrack and linnets, cormorants and eider ducks going about their respective business. Don't be surprised if the enticing aroma of oak-smoked kippers wafts from the nearby L Robson & Sons - home of the legendary Craster Kippers. Not to be missed. On your doorstep is the wonderfully take-me-as-you-find-me Jolly Fisherman. A simple pub serving well-priced crab sandwiches that are perfect washed down with a pint of Black Sheep ale. There's even off-road parking for up to two cars—a real coup for the intimate streets of this small village. This retreat by the sea awaits you and your family this summer. ## Property amenities ### Internet - Available in the cottage: WiFi ### Food and drink - Dishwasher ### Bedrooms - 3 bedrooms ### Bathroom - 3 bathrooms - Shower ### Living spaces - Fireplace ### Entertainment - Smart TV ### Outdoor areas - Barbecue grill - Patio ### Laundry - Laundry facilities - Washing machine ### Pets - No pets allowed ### Suitability/Accessibility - Smoke-free property ### Location highlights - Near the ocean ### Safety features - Carbon monoxide detector not reported (host has not indicated whether there is a carbon monoxide detector on the property; consider bringing a portable detector) - Smoke detector not reported (host has not indicated whether there is a smoke detector on the property) ## Similar properties ![Terrace/patio](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/33000000/32920000/32914500/32914407/c7948243.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### Cosy end of terrace accommodation situated right on the heritage coastline. From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent 16 Jun 2024 #### Middlerigg is a truly beautiful property in a stunning location. We had an amazing stay at Middlerigg. The location on the harbour is outstanding and everything in the house exudes quality. The house is incredibly well appointed and very comfortable. The views across the coastline to Dunstanburgh Castle are superb. From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent 19 Nov 2024 #### Excellent……again Another wonderful stay at a fantastic property from Catch the Breeze (Middlerigg). Facilities and location are perfect. We are already planning our next visit to the area. The team were helpful from the booking of the cottage right up until the day we left. From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent 1 Sept 2023 #### Wonderful place to stay Cottage is stunning - even better than the website photos. Well designed and decorated and fitted out to high specification. Would definitely come back. We’ve stayed in some lovely places home and abroad but this is probably the best we’ve had - especially with that view and outside terrace. From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent 23 Sept 2023 #### A week in Craster Fantastic property. We were very impressed with everything. The customer service was courteous and efficient. Thank you “Catch the breeze retreats” Would highly recommended From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent 7 Mar 2025 #### Loveliest house in Craster Just back from our third stay at Middlerigg - in our opinion the loveliest house in Craster. The decor is comfortable and tasteful and the bathrooms are modern and spotlessly clean. We didn’t really use the kitchen as dining out in the area is fabulous, however it is spacious and extremely well equipped. The mezzanine room has the best view in the house although the views from all windows are stunning. Would recommend this house to anyone looking for a luxurious home from home in a stunning location From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent #### Barbara C. 11 Oct 2025 #### So good, we re-booked on our second day We have stayed in many self-catering properties before, but this was without doubt the best. Comfortable, warm, clean and with absolutely everything you could possibly need. From a well equipped kitchen, to soft bath sheets and comfortable beds and furniture, we could not fault Middlerigg. Personal touches were welcome as well. A variety of things in a welcome pack - butter, bread, milk, biscuits etc. And a couple of visits from Claire to check everything was OK was very reassuring. And then there is the view - across the harbour to Dunstanburgh Castle and out to sea. We could sit all day watching the comings and goings and the rhythm of the village. Not to mention the Jolly Fisherman pub, Robinson's Kippery and shop and the Shoreline Cafe all just around the corner. ##### Barbara C. From a partner site ### 8/10 Good #### Terry B. 31 Dec 2023 #### Fantastic location and beautiful holiday home. Beautiful holiday home with lots of attention to detail with interior design and furnishings. Location is perfect on good days to explore the amazing Northumbrian coast line or just sit in the den and watch the sea on bad weather days. Some aspects of cleanliness disappointing. ##### Terry B. From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent 1 Sept 2023 #### Family holiday in Craster Middlerigg was a superb property to stay in. It is so well equipped, relaxing and the beds so comfortable. The location ,overlooking Craster harbour, is amazing. We had lovely weather so we were able to sit outside on the patio and enjoy the outside space. Beautiful property. Comfortable and social lounge for evenings. Gorgeous showers. Everything perfect for us. From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent 22 Apr 2025 #### Middlerigg Excellent In all aspects Middlerigg was brilliant .Location was superb. Condition, cleanliness and comfort around the property was excellent. The Welcome pack was lovely and much appreciated and little touches like hand wash at all the sinks, adequate dishwasher tablets, binbags etc were again appreciated. Separate handtowels in all bathrooms and generous amounts of toilet roll were also a great addition.. The staff were very helpful and we got a call to inform us that the cottage was ready a few hours before check in which was really helpful. From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent #### Sarah B. 21 Nov 2023 #### Craster cracker Beautiful decor and interior. Customer service was excellent and communication was very good. Kitchen was well appointed. Plenty of cutlery, crockery and pans etc Wonderfully warm - never run out of hot water etc. A superb property that was just perfect. ##### Sarah B. From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent 21 Oct 2023 #### Beautiful Craster Our stay at Middlerigg exceeded expectation. What a beautiful property with exceptional views across to Dunstanburgh Castle. Such a great place to base yourself for exploring the area. The property was cosy, comfortable and finished to an high standard. We couldn’t be happier watching daily life in the harbour and the waves crashing against the rocks. We loved it so much we have booked to come back next year. From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent 10 Sept 2024 #### Perfect Holiday Destination What can I say about Middlerigg that will do it justice? The house is beautiful, positioned perfectly overlooking the harbour with a patio to sit on and watch the activities or just look at the scenery. Inside it has everything you could need and is homely and inviting, we arrived and felt settled immediately we unpacked. It is in a really pretty village on the beautiful Northumberland coast so you can enjoy the wildlife, views and the weather, we even saw dolphins. The staff at Catch the Breeze are great, friendly, helpful and couldn't do enough for us. The standards in the property are carried into all they do, excellent. Will definitely try to go back as soon as we can. From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent #### Reg R. 13 Nov 2023 #### Just perfect In over 40 years of self catering holidays I have never stayed in a better property than this. Fixtures and fittings are of the highest quality and so much thought has gone into providing anything you might possibly need for your holiday. The location, overlooking the harbour, is the best in the village. Recommended unreservedly. One cautionary note - parking two cars in the available space is a challenge. ##### Reg R. From a partner site ### 8/10 Good #### Paul A. 2 Apr 2025 #### Stunning Views/Great Location The House is in a perfect location in the heart of the Village, with a short walk to the Pub and the Smokery. Plenty of space and well laid out. We did find the Sitting Room a little cool, however I believe that is because Log Burner would normally be used, however we did not use it. Travelling with older people, a hand rail to the front door would have helped, and the seating in the Sitting Room was quite low - but we managed and had an excellent week and will return. The glass ceiling in the 2nd Sitting Room could do with a clean - I understand the location and weather will not help, however I would have said it has been a while since it was done - do not be put off - Thanks Catch the Breeze Retreats! ##### Paul A. From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent 29 Sept 2025 #### The most wonderful birthday celebration! We have just returned from the most fabulous week spent at Middlerigg whilst celebrating a special birthday with loved-ones. From the moment we set foot inside this outstanding property, we felt instantly at home. Nestled in the centre of Craster, Middlerigg provides stunning views of the harbour towards Dunstanburgh Castle and every care has been taken to ensure a most comfortable and enjoyable holiday. The rooms are beautifully decorated, immaculately clean, spacious and light, and there are views from every single window. We loved the kitchen area leading onto the patio, and the upstairs sitting area was an absolute joy - watching the weather over the harbour became an enjoyable daily routine! The house is really well equipped with everything you could possibly need, with high quality fittings, comfortable beds & sofas, plenty of hot water & even logs for the fire which made for cosy evenings when the sun had gone down. The location is perfect, with easy accessibility to all the local amenities and many places of interest in the surrounding area - with amazing walks from the door, and even a wonderful pub just a few steps away! Clare was so helpful and kind and we wouldn't hesitate in booking with 'Catch The Breeze' again. The week will linger long in our memories and we hope to return in the very near future. From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent 31 Jul 2024 #### A fantastic stay in a wonderful location. An incredibly clean and well maintained holiday property with fantastic views across the harbour over to Dunstanburgh Castle. The view always gave us something to look at from the clouds formations over the castle to the boats entering and leaving the harbour. The house has plenty of defined spaces to enjoy, with a separate lounge plus the mezzanine floor over the kitchen which provided a lovely bright space for reading. The location right by the England coastal path provided great opportunities for walking both north to the castle and Embleton, and south where we discovered a secluded beach. There is no shortage of beaches or castles to visit within a short drive and we made good use of the 'things to do' guide included in the property, which provided excellent recommendations on places to eat as well as beaches. The only negative point is the parking which was pretty tight for two family sized cars. Other than that, a wonderful stay. From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent #### Matthew P. 18 Aug 2024 #### Wonderful holiday home, in the most perfect of locations. We love Middlerigg! Our second stay here and it gets better. It's location overlooking Craster harbour is unrivalled. A group of 5 including 2 children, the house itself is spacious amd finished to a very high standard. Every room has sea views with the stunning backdrop of Dunstanburgh Castle. The large kitchen diner is a particular highlight! We benefitted from lovely weather so could regularly sit on the patio area to eat or simply watch the world pass by and wait in anticipation for the potential of spotting dolphins! Craster is the perfect spot to explore Northumberland, and with great food and drink available at the Jolly Fisherman a mere 2 minutes away Middlerigg is the best located property in the village! ##### Matthew P. From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent 14 Nov 2025 #### Fourth visit and still perfect. This was the fourth time that we have visited Middlerigg and every time our stay has been perfect. We plan to return next year! High quality accommodation and extremely clean. It was in a wonderful location with superb views along to the castle. A highlight was getting up early to watch the sunrise over the harbour. Booking and communication was great and Clare was so helpful and friendly. We enjoyed smoked fish from Craster, walks along the coast and trips to explore the spectacular coast, castles and Holy Island. ##### Adam W. ### Expedia's Latest Trends ### Hotels > - [Cheltenham Chase Hotel & Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-Delta-By-Marriott-Cheltenham-Chase-Hotel.h9657.Hotel-Information) > - [Splash Landings Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Stoke-On-Trent-Hotels-Splash-Landings-Hotel.h1160988.Hotel-Information) > - [Pope Lodge At Hallsteads](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Alnwick-Hotels-Pope-Lodge-At-Hallsteads.h60098501.Hotel-Information) > - [Etrop Grange Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Manchester-Hotels-Etrop-Grange.h49116.Hotel-Information) > - [The Derwent Manor Boutique Hotel ](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Consett-Hotels-The-Derwent-Manor-Boutique-Hotel.h9535.Hotel-Information) > - [Spence Lodge At Hallsteads](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Alnwick-Hotels-Spence-Lodge-At-Hallsteads.h60098963.Hotel-Information) > - [The Tankerville Arms](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Alnwick-Hotels-Tankerville-Arms.h34500811.Hotel-Information) > - [Pine Lake Resort](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Carnforth-Hotels-Pine-Lake-Resort.h1928661.Hotel-Information) > - [Lakeside Lodge with 6 berth hot tub and private fishing peg](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Lincoln-Hotels-Delightful-Lakeside-Lodge-With-Hot-Tub-Private-Fishing-Peg-With-Stunning-View.h27123912.Hotel-Information) > - [Old Colliery Cottage](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Alnwick-Hotels-2-Bedroom-Accommodation-In-Shilbottle.h92312684.Hotel-Information) > - [South Stable At Hallsteads](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Alnwick-Hotels-South-Stable-At-Hallsteads.h60099306.Hotel-Information) > - [Delta Hotels by Marriott Warwick](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Warwick-Hotels-M40-J15-Warwick-Hotel.h10444.Hotel-Information) > - [DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Airport](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Manchester-Hotels-DoubleTree-By-Hilton-Manchester-Airport.h26104.Hotel-Information) > - [Saltmoore](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Whitby-Hotels-Raithwaite-Sandsend.h4276816.Hotel-Information) > - [Newton Hall Courtyard Rooms](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Alnwick-Hotels-Courtyard-Rooms.h96173019.Hotel-Information) > - [Cave Hotel & Golf Resort](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Faversham-Hotels-Cave-Hotel-Golf-Resort.h33410673.Hotel-Information) > - [Urban Beach Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Bournemouth-Hotels-Urban-Beach-Hotel.h2814369.Hotel-Information) > - [Delta Hotels by Marriott Colchester](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Colchester-Hotels-Delta-Hotels-By-Marriott-Colchester.h14251.Hotel-Information) > - [Wychnor Park Country Club](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Burton-On-Trent-Hotels-Wychnor-Park-Country-Club.h1927715.Hotel-Information) > - [The Pepper Pot](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Alnwick-Hotels-The-Pepper-Pot.h70030029.Hotel-Information) > - [The Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Alnwick-Hotels-The-Dunstanburgh-Castle-Hotel.h110484638.Hotel-Information) > - [DoubleTree by Hilton Stoke on Trent](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Stoke-On-Trent-Hotels-DoubleTree-By-Hilton-Stoke-On-Trent.h6788.Hotel-Information) > - [Westlea Guest House](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Alnwick-Hotels-Westlea-Guest-House.h24283492.Hotel-Information) > - [Ox Hotel Manchester](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Manchester-Hotels-Milton-Manchester-Hotel.h18787802.Hotel-Information) > - [Caverswall Castle](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Stoke-On-Trent-Hotels-Caverswall-Castle.h23959535.Hotel-Information) > - [De Vere Tortworth Court](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Bristol-Hotels-De-Vere-Tortworth-Court.h570412.Hotel-Information) > - [Makeney Hall Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Belper-Hotels-Makeney-Hall-Hotel.h1206529.Hotel-Information) > - [Cambridge Belfry Hotel & Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cambridge-Hotels-Cambridge-Belfry.h1103020.Hotel-Information) > - [Luxury caravan at Butlins Skegness](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Skegness-Hotels-Luxury-Caravan-At-Butlins-Skegness.h36376338.Hotel-Information) ---
