Its characteristic silvery sand makes it one of the most beautiful beaches of the entire Abruzzo riviera, and it's also ideal for water sports like windsurfing, sailing, swimming, scuba diving and fishing. Fun and sun, but also history, culture and tradition—a holiday in Alba Adriatica will be a chance to explore the Teramo area and its beauty, nestled between the Gran Sasso Apennines and the Adriatic Sea. Alba Adriatica's famous promenade stretches between the beach and the shoreline. A 3 km oasis immersed in the greenery of palm trees, pine trees and oleanders, perfect for relaxing bike rides or other outdoor activities. In the evening it becomes a meeting place—the place to go to have some fun surrounded by kiosks and ice cream stands while enjoying the fresh, salty sea air. Discotheques and clubs open until dawn are all around you. One of the best ways to discover Alba is by bicycle. A gorgeous bike trail known as the Corridoio verde Adriatico runs along the entire beach separated by the pavement and the road, extending right through the city of Alba Adriatica all the way to the surrounding towns. Towards the north you'll find Villa Rosa, Martinsicuro, Porto d'Ascoli and San Benedetto del Tronto, and towards the south you can visit Tortoreto or go on to Giulianova and Cologna. While Alba Adriatica does not have centuries of tradition like the nearby Giulianova or San Benedetto del Tronto, it does have its icons and attractions. A tower that dates back to the mid-16th century, originally used to spot approaching enemies, today houses an excellent restaurant. There are also two small characteristic parish churches: S. Eufemia and S. Maria. Like all of Italy's finest cities, there are plenty of aristocratic villas, once the summer residences of noble families. And let's not forget the 18th-century neoclassical Villa Chiarugi and those built in the early 20th century, Villa Gianluca Palma and Villa Zanini. Alba Adriatica is also the ideal base for exploring the inland areas of the Abruzzo Region. The Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park is not far away, perfect for family outings. The park spans a surface area of over 150,000 ha, with holly, fir trees and mountain maple, where wild animals live, like the chamois, wolf, deer, Golden Eagle and the Peregrine falcon. With its unique bright colours in the summer, and warm enveloping tones in the autumn, the Gran Sasso is the mountain range that defines Abruzzo, with its majestic peaks and steep slopes, while the Laga Mountains enchant and fascinate thanks to the harmonious silence of their thousands of trails, tucked away in the woods and rises. There are also many trekking and climbing paths for experts and beginners alike. The wine and food of Teramo is a true culinary art that over the years has innovated without betraying its roots, bringing back and revamping that which once was considered peasant food and that today has become synonymous with excellence and quality. Typical delicacies include Pecorino Marcetto, honey and truffle from Laga, PGI Marchigiana beef and typical cured meats, the most popular of which has to be Ventricina.
