The area is quiet and safe. There are plenty of activities to do during the day: dog sledding, lake visit, or taking a scenic train ride to Narvik. Just a five-minute walk toward the base station and you can see the Northern Lights so clearly in the sky. Let me start by saying this is an amazing location and well worth a visit. However, we stayed in a premium room, which was more expensive than our 4 star hotel in Kiruna, but nowhere near the same quality. Nevertheless, as everyone else has previously, we overlooked this due to the amazing location. We were unable to book in the restaurant for the three nights we were there and ate in the bistro once as the menu never changed burger, pizzas or salad. We flew into Kiruna from Stockholm and rented a car to travel up to Abisko. Easy drive and lovely place to stay for 3 nights. Went hiking and spotted the Aurora from our hotel. Booked activities directly with them which was so easy and the staff were all very helpful. Food in the bistro and the restaurant was delicious.
