The ornate exterior is matched by an elegant interior in the Adamesque style, with Italian marble stairways, Wedgewood inspired colors and gold leaf accents, all restored to their original beauty. The Church of St. John the Baptist became a cathedral in 1850 when the Diocese of Savannah was established with the Right Reverend Francis X. Gartland as its first bishop. The Cathedral was dedicated at this site on April 30, 1876. A fire in 1898 destroyed much of the structure. It was quickly rebuilt and opened again in 1900. Another major restoration took place in 2000. (1,151 reviews) Front desk staff was unsure if I would pay deposit for license Service Dog. He was telling all kinds of things that did not apply. My room had roaches coming from shower drain. Tried washing them down and they would be back up. Gross. They told me they were palmetto bugs. Still not something I want to see when showering. Then at check out. I had the same non knowable staff member who wanted to Charge me more than Expedia said I own the property. I showed the clerk Expedia receipt. I left the hotel not closing my bill because I was not paying it. Watch out when booking online and paying at hotel!! If noise bothers you, I recommend that you don’t get a room facing the street. I would assume that the River side is quieter. I absolutely would recommend this place and would stay here again.
