INSIDE Historical Istanbul!

This place is a 10 minute lesiurely walk (5minutes if you walk really fast) from the Aya Sofia, Topkapi Palace, Sultanahmet Mosque, Grand Bazar, and many other fun and exciting places. The hotel’s staff is wonderful, the wireless intenet is not only freebut very fast. The rooms, although tiny, are comfortable and clean and with soundproof windows to keep the night-time partying noise out! Bathrooms get wet however, so some flipflops for th bathrooms are necessary. The adjoining restaurant (Salute Bar and Grill) is the BEST place to eat in all of Istanbul, and beleive me, I know food! Salute’s Kabab and Yoghurt and their ’Meat on a Sheet’ are superb!! Nearby there is excellent shopping!

although the historical center is a distance from airport, this is THE spot in Istanbul- history, great food, wonderful shopping, nice walking... will return soon!!

Location and price can’t be beaten!

I read the other reviews of Hotel Agan and was in two minds whether to book it. But the location looked good and, as I was travelling by myself, I was more interested in staying within my budget than in luxurious accommodation. So I went ahead and booked a wek at Hotel Agan - and I’m pleased I did! The hotel staff have perfect English and are very friendly. The hotel’s location is perfect - 15 mins walk to all the major attractions in Sultanhemet and the Bazaar Quarters. The hotel has the facilities to book all your local tours, should you need them. Free wifi in the room plus internet terminals in the lobby. Some of the other reviews mention noise - I agree there is some noise in the hotel - but it’s in the centre of the tourist district, so this is to be expected. Other reviews complained about the breakfast - I had no problems with this, it is a Turkish buffet, not a Western/continental buffet, consisting of sweet breads, vegetables, and some meats - delicious. It’s also very convenient that the hotel has its own restaurant. Given my circumstances - solo traveller, prioritising location and budget - I’d thoroughly recommend Hotel Agan. I can see how it might not be the best choice for a romantic getaway, or for a traveling family, but if I was in the same situation again I’d stay at Hotel Agan in a heartbeat. Recommended!

If you’re on a budget, you can save yourself some money by taking the metro from the airport to Hotel Agan. It’s TRY 1.50 per journey, and changing from the train to the tram counts as a new journey. Get off at Sircujek or Guillhane for Hotel Agan - it’s only a five minute walk from either.
