“Great hotel close to Capitol Hill”

Beautiful hotel with plenty of amenities and comfy beds. Walking distance to US Capitol and less than 1 block from NAR building, but beware this neighborhood at night. Cab it to your next stop rather than walk. I am a woman and traveled there with a female colleague. We were perfectly safe walking to the Capitol during the day and a next door to the NAR building early evening, but were warned by locals to cab it if we were going any further than that. Once we got to the White House later that night we were perfectly safe to walk around.

“A chain hotel that meets the standard”

We chose the Hyatt Regency for its convenience to the Supreme Court (twenty minute walk, with heels) and Union Station (ten minutes, with bags) and weren't disappointed. The lobby bar had surprisingly good sliders, and the Article One restaurant served a decent lunch, although service was over-taxed by a full house. Room service breakfast was a little disappointng - limited choices, no "prix fixe" options. All the staff were very polite, very helpful. The room was OK, a little small and only one comfortable chair besides the desk chair.

“Nice place for getting around in DC”

It was a nice place but we were disappointed that the pool was closed down and we were not informed. That was one of our criteria for choosing a hotel.

Area recommendations
Near a Metro station and walking distance from the primary attractions that you want to see.

“Excellent Hotel in the Shadow of the Capitol”

My recent visit to DC was wonderful - thanks in large part to the quality and convenience of the Hyatt Regency. Within a few blocks of the Metro at Union Station, the hotel could not have been more conveniently located. My mother, sister, and I were able to walk from our hotel to the Capitol, then down to the Smithsonian museums, then over to the White House with relative ease. Check in and check out were easy and swift, and the ability to store our bags in a locked area after checkout but before our departure from DC was a definite plus. Will definitely stay here again and recommend to others who wish to relax and sightsee in the heart of DC.

Getting there
We parked outside of DC (in Springfield) and took the Metro into town. Parking in the Metro lots is free on weekends, and it only cost us $5.25 per person to ride the Metro from Springfield, VA into Union Station (one train transfer was required, so be sure you visit the Metro's website to familiarize yourself with the train schedule before traveling).
What to pack
Pack lightly so that you can travel the city on foot with ease.
Family-friendly activities
The Smithsonian's Museum of Natural History. The exhibits are top-notch. The sculpture and butterfly gardens are a great addition to the outdoors. We were traveling with a six year old, and the walk from the Hyatt Regency over to the White House was manageable with stops along the way to see the Capitol and the various museums that line the walk.
Comment from the hotel's management
Thank you for your wonderful review. We're delighted you and your family had an excellent time in Washington. Our hotel is just two blocks away from Union station which is greatly convenient for our guests. We're glad to hear our front desk was able to hold your luggage while you enjoyed the sights after check out. Thank you for your recommendation and we hope to see you soon.

“ideal spot with child”

The Hyatt Regency was an outstandng value for a 3-day stay in DC. Our room size was adequate for 2 adults and one child with King bed and roll away. The location offered a stunning view of the Capitol and an easy walk to Capitol Hill. Close proximity to Union Station and other Metro. Breakfast was included with an extensive buffet, prompt service. Dinner was relaxing and delicious one evening. Staff was engaging and helpful, the concierge was knowledgeable. As we travel with a small noise machne, the typical hall noise was not noticed. If traveling with childen, we would choose this hotel again. An evening swim in the indoor pool was a hit with our 9 yr old boy.

“Great stay in DC”

Great area- close to the capital and union station, lots of things to do/see in walking distance. Food at the hotel is ridiculously expensive though and not at all worth it.
