“Terrible location, prostitutes”

The room was spacious, clean, and well appointed, and the staff tries hard; but the motel is far from bus or Metro. Trains behind it shake the foundations, and heavy trucks in front shake the windows. Saturday night, revelers yelled and whooped to 2 am, and prostitutes walked by.

“Eric Lien”

The price/value relationship of this motel is excellent. All other motel options in the local area were priced at least twice that much per night. For those traveling on a budget, this is an excellent value. The rooms could have been cleaner, and the neighborhood slightly better , but it was no problem to put up with these few inconveniences in order to be within 2 miles of the DC convention Center and save 100% per night. Breakfast could have been better, but the breakfast room was clean, stocked with fresh OJ, coffee and cereal/bagels. For a more elaborate breakfast, there are many economical options just a few blocks away. For the price, you can't beat it!

“Hotel in bad shape not recommended for people with no car”

- The pool is just a garbage deposit with a feet deep of green water. - The closest metro station is unreachable: sidewalk close on New York avenue force you to cross to the other side of the street of a busy four lane road with no pedestrian crossing. - The bathroom was clean, not the same with the old stained carpet / blankets / walls / furniture on the room. - The neighborhood doesn't feels safe. I booked 3 nights and leave the hotel after the first night without demanding any reimbursement. I choose better to lose just the hotel money. - 1st time to book on Howard Johnson and I better avoid it in the future.

Area recommendations
Avoid the area north of Union Station on New York Avenue. Check the access of public transp and the safety of the neigborhood if you don't have a car. Geographically this area looks close to downtown and metro station. It is not, walking doesn't feel safe and there is no metro station reachable.
Getting around
Better with a car. Pedestrian has very problems to walk by.
Nightlife
Neighborhood doesn't encourage to leave/ reach hotel after dark.
Outdoors or beach
The pool is no working.

“very nice and comfortable ,but far from the metro station”

very nice and comfortable ,but far from the metro station . the room was clean and was cleaned every day by the staff. we had a nice breakfest every morning. the only problem is if you don't come with a car and you are attend to use the metro you will have to walk quite distance.

“Infested with bed bugs and roches. Worst neighborhood location in D C.”

Expedia should investigate conditions of hotels before advertising them on their Website. This hotel is under investigation for bug infestation, roaches, and fleas. The location of this hotels is within the worst neighboorhood in D C.

“Affordable in Washington DC”

Nice room, well set up for every need! Hotel is near the main railroad tracks into the Washington DC are, did not bother me, might bother others.

“ONE STAR”

“Rude people”

When trying to find the hotel, the attendant was rude and told me to call the police to get directions. After driving around for two hours we found it. At check in, the attendant was rude again and there was no way for me to get to my room because his car and cones were blocking the driveway. When I asked him how I was to get to the other side he said to go around in the opposite direction but there was a taxi. I am not sure if I could have even accessed my room from that direction. He did move the cones but was very frustrated with me for asking. When I went in there was urine and pubic-looking hairs on the floor in the bathroom.

Area recommendations
With children under 10 I would not suggest the trip I had planned. There is almost no where to park and the traffic is very dangerous when crossing.

“Disappointed in DC”

Howard Johnson's Express in DC was a disappointment. The hotel is shabby and has not been updated in a while. The workers were helpful, but the hotel needs some TLC by its owners.
