Located around the lower end of the slow moving Murray River, Murraylands is a rural area with relaxed pace of life, colourful birdlife, watersports, rich heritage and beautiful landscapes. Areas & Neighbourhoods in Murraylands

Mannum – One of the main settlements in Murraylands, Mannum boasts a rich history, pretty waterfront and a choice of river cruises. Historic boats can be found all along the town’s riverfront, with many offering trips along this picturesque stretch of the Murray. Explore the town’s museums, take an historic walking tour of central Mannum or visit the nearby waterfalls.

Murray Bridge – Located in the heart of the Murraylands region, Murray Bridge is home to two historic river crossings and a variety of water and land based activities. Visit the city’s zoo, take a cruise along the river, learn about the region’s past in the Captain’s Cottage Museum or enjoy a round or two of golf on the local course.

Murray River – Stretching for 1,5558 miles from the Australian Alps to Lake Alexandrina, the Murray river is the country’s longest. Several historic boats still ply the waters, making a great option for an enjoyable afternoon on the river. Other Activities on the Murray river include kayaking, canoeing and fishing.

Wellington – Just north of Lake Alexandrina and the end of the Murray River, Wellington was the site of the first crossing point on the waterway. Today, a ferry still operates between the two shores of the river, allowing visitors to see both sides of this historic town.

Things to See in Murraylands

With the Murray Bridge one of the most famous sights in the region, no trip to Murraylands would be complete without a visit to the historic crossing. While you’re in Murray Bridge, visit the Monarto Zoological Park, one of the town’s main attractions. You’ll also find a collection of historic buildings in Mannum and a number of restored steam and paddle boats up and down the river. Lake Alexandrina is another prominent sight in the region, with the area around the lake an important breeding habitat for a number of the area’s birds and animals.

One of the most popular activities in Murray Bridge is river cruising. Modern and period boats can be found in ports along the river, making it easy to find an itinerary that suits you perfectly. Other activities in the region include fishing, kayaking, canoeing and golf. If you want to learn more about the local area, visit Tailem Town, the largest pioneer village in Australia.
