I loved the history of the lodge and how charming the property and the grounds are! I loved how the property has been taken care of with so much love and passed down from generations in a family. Desma and John made the place feel homey and was able to keep it's historical elements to it while adding some modern touches to make it more comfortable for the guest. The additional counter space add-on in the bathroom and heated bathroom lights did not go unnoticed. There is a cute and lovely BBQ patio and we took advantage of cooking and enjoying the garden space for dinner one night (Strahan Wilderness Lodge also offers BBQ packages if you don't want to grocery shop on your own). The booklet that Desma and John put together will cover everything you need to know about darling Strahan!

What a lovely welcome. Clean, comfortable and cosy room. Strahan is certainly struggling with staffing and covid so restaurants are limited. Fortunately the owner had given us a “heads up” so we ordered takeaway Thai - very cosy enjoying this and a bottle of wine in the lounge. Helpful info sheet with details of restaurants and laundries etc. very warm, comfortable room. Would recommend for travellers.

The property is a old style house. Has charm & character. The hosts are really nice people . The grounds are kept well.maintained. it is only a 5 minute drive to strahan township.

Fantastic lodge on outskirts of town. On the water with great views. Well set up common area and kitchen. Great lawn area and look out. Not a motel but room had ensuite and only saw other guests using the common kitchen area.

The historic homestead from mining times at Gormanston has been reassembled, modified, and cleverly restored after trucking to its present site at Strahan. The deluxe suite #1is very comfortable with good views.

The building was beautifully restored and decorated, felt so at home, like being at my Nan’s. Amazing views across the river. John was excellent host, plenty of knowledge to share. Deducted 1/5th of a point for no TV in rooms, now football season is here!

Quaint.
Quaint in a quiet location. Continental breakfast provided and John is knowledgeable and willing to assist. Found our room to be small although others were larger. Overall pleasing stay.

Thanks for your review. Just so others reading this are not mislead we are a 3 minute drive to the epicentre of town, restaurants and cruise terminals. We are a 'wilderness' lodge surrounded by nature but we are still inside the boundaries of the very small town of Strahan which takes 10 minutes to drive from one side to other. Our rooms are all different sizes, some larger than others depending on what room type you book and what is available at the time of booking.

A lovely old house that had been tastefully converted and refurbished into an excellent facility. Located a short way out of town in a lovely secluded spot. Very quiet and peaceful. Host John was delightful, and most helpful with the best local attractions to visit. Very good value, in a lovely part of Tasmania.

Very homely and comfortable set in beautiful surroundings. Val was a great (stand in) hostess and couldn't be more helpful. Convenient parking, good internet service and a more than adequate breakfast to enjoy overlooking the harbour. We stayed 2 nights and felt right at home.

A little out of the way but comfortable with comfy bed and adequate breakfast. Room was nice with opening window and a heater. A good shower but bathroom needing renovation and better ventilation. Good wifi

We loved the garden surrounds expereincing the amazing birdlife and huge bumble bees and view of coloured boats from the waters edge.. We were able sit outside in areas where we could do artist painting while overlooking the water and or go for short walks to the 6 different jettys for a closer view of the boats. Only a 5 to 8 minute drive to the local. shops!/cafes and tourist venues. Hosts John and Desma were very accomodating to our dietery needs, approachable regarding any questions and interests.. Our room was clean neat with attention to detail. Loved our own sitting room with a view of the garden and waterfront. A continental breakfast was also provided in the cost and well catered for eaten in a shared space next to sunny windows & view.

Very welcoming couple, excellent continental breakfast served, beautiful gardens and peaceful area. Rooms spacious and beautifully decorated, extra comfortable bed and nice touches like fresh flowers on the dresser. Great hospitality even down to getting a special goodbye from their little dog. Loved it.

Beautiful old wooden home moved from Gormanston near Queenstown years ago. The site is gorgeous overlooking the harbour. It is away from the noise of the town, but you need a car.

Sweet B&B in Strahan
The hosts were very welcoming. Made reservations for a river cruise outing for us. The B&B was a lovely home with great views over the water. Only complaint was that we had to drive to town for dinner.

I stayed there for three nights at the end of their season and was the only guest for two of those nights. I enjoyed the view over the harbor from the windows of my room annex and the very pleasant setting for continental breakfast (also the TV and reading room). I thought the lodge was an excellent alternative to the usual motel room - much more interesting historically and in a lovely location with walks and views laid on.
