Nice relaxing weekend.
Very quiet and peaceful. Rosie offered us warm baking in our arrival which was very nice. Short journey to local facilities but far enough away to feel secluded. The road to the property from the main road is very bumpy though, but we were told about it before arrival.

Beautiful, cozy, scenic
Feels very secluded, but still in easy driving distance to great hiking, historic sites, Loch Lomond. Very quiet. Kids loved the pool. You will want to rent a car for sure, and they aren’t kidding about the access road, you’ll want a sturdy one. Cottage very well equipped with kitchen supplies and dishes. Very cozy sunroom. Hosts are friendly and knowledgable about the area.

Spring holiday
A warm welcome to a very warm property. Everything was just as we expected, but we did find the approach track difficult and a deterrent to going in and out more than once a day. Anyone with a particularly low car would have real problems. We were warned about it but did not realise just how bad it is! The open space living/dining area was bright and there was plenty of room for 8 people. The highlight for the young ones was the pool which was used at least twice a day, and the hot tub was lovely, Who'd have thought sitting out in the early April evening would be so comfortable and relaxing? It would be good to remind people to bring flip-flops or crocks to walk from the house. We drove to get fish suppers from Aberfoyle, but the outlet was closed - best to check in advance. The Black Bull is lovely. Thanks to the hosts for a really enjoyable family break.

A good place to visit the trossachs
We had a wonderful stay in the Byre cottage. It was a cosy cottage with a spacious living area. My daughter loved the landing with rocking chair! There were 4 bedrooms (3 downstairs, 1 upstairs) so plenty of space for us to spread out. Rosie and Dave were lovely hosts and very friendly. The kids very much enjoyed having the use of the pool. The surrounding area is very quiet and we had a nice walk through the "Wee Wood" nearby. The track to the cottage feels quite long, especially the first time, but we took it slowly and our car was fine.

Very relaxing environment
A lovely property with great social space, helpful owner. Very much enjoyed the outdoor hot tub. The ground conditions around the property are tricky in bad weather (we had lots of rain), so future visitors should read the information provided by the owners, so they are aware of what to expect.

Beautiful House, Idyllic Surroundings
This is a beautiful property and the hosts were extremely helpful with every part of the booking and the stay. The hot tub and pool (with a wave machine!!) are a fantastic part of the property and my kids made full use of the pool. The house was cosy and homely and it was a lovely surprise to have flap jacks and a bottle of Prosecco on the table waiting for us. Everything was spotless and although you felt like it was the middle of nowhere, we were actually very close to Stirling and Loch Lomond and thus had the best of both worlds-peace and quiet as well as activities. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I would definitely recommend the place to others.

5 Star welcoming host. Definitely Recommended
I have just enjoyed a 3 night weekend stay with 5 close friends. A great time was had by all, property was big enough far all to enjoy the space without feeling over crowded. Each couple had their own shower/toilet facilities. We each enjoyed the use of the pool area and hot tub. On the Saturday night we went to the local pub/ restaurant for dinner and a few drinks. Locals were very friendly and accommodating. Would highly recommend.

Thanks Rosie and David, everything was just as described, and made for a fantastic family holiday. The setting and facilities were excellent, the shared Hot Tub would have been great if I had actually realised what day of the week it was.. My fault entirely.. Hope the other guests weren’t too put out 😊 Take care and thanks again. Alan

Great Weekend
Had a lovely stay at this cottage. Rosie was very welcoming and gave us an excellent tour of the property. Road, although bumpy, was not as bad as expected and so long as we drove slowly there were no issues. House was clean and tidy with plenty of towels for both the bathroom and the hot tub which was just lovely. We really enjoyed out stay thank you again!

Out Stay
Rosie was wonderful, couldnt be more helpful,,,lovely kind and welcoming. A lovely lady. The place. The advertisement pictures must have been taken some years ago. Place a bit tierd looking and could do with an all round spruce up. AS we were there in lovely hot weather we were really bothered with flies. May be a good idea to put up some kind of fly nets over the Windows. Also perhaps some kinda blinds over the roof Windows. Pool was great, kids loved it. A few garden chairs would have been good for those who didnt go into the pool but looked after the children who couldnt be left on their own. Hot tub was great fun too with great views..but again a few chairs would have been great. Saying all this, we did have a lovely time and found the house clean with clean bedding. Thank you to Rosie. M.Strang.
Response from VrboOwner on 15 Jul 2021
Thanks for taking the time to write a review, and for your positive comments, and we’re glad you enjoyed your stay. We would gladly have brought some chairs round for the pool and hot tub if you had mentioned it during your stay; we make it clear that we are on hand to help with anything if needed, and that would have been a simple fix. We have now put in a robust fly ‘zapper’, so that seems to be helping with the insect population while this lovely warm weather continues. Once finances recover sufficiently from the impact of having our business closed by law for 8 months out of 13, we look forward to continuing our planned ongoing maintenance/upgrades of the Byre, and hope that guests will understand the difficulty faced by hospitality businesses which have lost all their income. We’re relieved not to have had to close permanently, which has been the fate of so many businesses during this dreadful pandemic. Thank you again for coming to stay, it was lovely to meet you all, and I’m glad your grand daughter enjoyed the gluten free rock buns!

Great place for a relaxing family holiday
A really great place for a holiday with children . The owners of the property are delightful and the bottle of Prosecco and flapjacks on arrival are a lovely touch. The pool and hot tub were a real bonus that added to the children’s enjoyment. We did not realise from the online listing that the pool and hot tub were shared with another property and that there was a timetable for its use. Having said that, the timetable was very fair. We also did not realise from the online description that the pool was not directly attached to our accommodation and that one had to go outdoors to get access to it. It would be helpful if the online description mentioned that one has to go outdoors to access the indoor pool. We would have brought bathrobes and crocs if we had known, particularly with four young children and in cold weather. We thoroughly recommend this lovely place in a very beautiful part of Scotland! Thank you Rosie and Dave!

Hi Antoinette, thanks so much for taking time to review your stay with us, and I’m glad you found much to enjoy. It’s frustrating, however, that you mention not realising that the pool and hot tub are shared, as this is stated quite clearly within the property description, which I imagine you would have read prior to booking. Similarly, as we ask guests to park next to the wooden pool building, and the cottages are clearly stone built, I’m sorry that you hadn’t understood that the two buildings aren’t one and the same. I shall ensure that this is more clearly explained in future, and I hope we will be able to welcome you back at some point.

Road to property worse we have ever encounter in 30 years of travelling to Scotland cottages. Property a bit tired, especially the pool area. Outside area in front of cottage could do with a lot of work to make first impressions a better experience. Wasn't make clear on website how close to other property and owner.

Myself and 4 friends came here to celebrate a 30th birthday. We loved the place. Log fire was nice and cosy. Hottub and swimming pool were great. Nice location if you are looking to get away from the usual hustle and bustle! I would recommend a visit to the local pub (black bull). The flapjacks and prosecco on arrival from Rosie was also lovely. Would definitely reccomend this place. Thanks again Rosie

What a location!
Nice property overall. Clean and comfy. Could be nicer if the garden was weeded and the exterior painted etc. Also, conservatory is unbearably hot and could benefit from blinds. Owners are lovely and the hot tub and pool were great for our family. The track is poor but as long as you go really slow you should be ok (even in a low vehicle). The location is superb. So many lovely day trips available and the lakeside amenities are so clean and organised yet quiet. Really impressed. Perfect stay if you want to visit the nearby lochs.

A fantastic stay for two families.
Our group comprised two couples with infants. The excellent layout of the house ensured we had near perfect stay - a big open light space in the 'heart' of the house meant we could socialise together in a way that never felt cramped - hanging out in the kitchen, dining area and living room, but also being able to enjoy the privacy and peace of having the bedrooms well apart. This meant that once the kids were in bed we didn't have to worry about keeping the noise down! The pool and hot tub were excellent features and brilliant for the grown ups and the 5 month old baby to use. Other thoughts... it's a fairly remote area and (pleasingly, for us) challenging to reach! I'd probably recommend a 4 wheel drive for the track, but it's not essential. We would also like to have had a fly zapper installed, as the wet summer weather certainly brought the flies out in their droves! If the weather had been warmer, we would have used the pretty outdoor space at the rear of the property, although this might have been curtailed by the smell from the neighbouring chicken coop. It is a farm, so you're going to get that I suppose. It's stunning and unique and I recommend it.

Would recommend for a chill out break
Lovely accommodation, clean, comfortable, spacious and homely. Fire was amazing. Great touch with the home made pancakes and bottle of prosecco on arrival. Exercise pool and jacuzzi was great. The path from the house to the pool/jacuzzi, due to the rain, was muddy and slippy and the pool room could do with a bit of TLC. We will definitely go back. Oh, and as mentioned in other reviews the road leading to the house is bad with pot holes but it's worth it when you get there.

Thanks for the review, and we're glad you liked the cottage and had a relaxing time. We are aware that the track is a rough farm track, which is why it's mentioned in all our advertising. As it doesn't belong to us, we are very limited by what we can do to improve matters, but most normal cars cope with it fine as long as it's taken slowly. The upside is that when you arrive, there's a very high degree of privacy, complete peace and quiet, and stunning views - especially from the hot tub!

A brilliant family cottage
The house was perfect for 8 adults and looked just like the photos. The open plan living space was perfect to keep everyone together, whether cooking, relaxing or playing games. There was plenty of crockery and cutlery for everybody, the beds were comfortable and the welcome freshly made warm carrot cake made by Rosie was so nice. The sitting area had plenty of tables and seats and the log burner kept the room warm and toasty too. The kitchen area was well equipped, and it was great to have a big fridge and freezer for 8 hungry people. However the icing on the week was the pool and hot tub. Sitting in the rain or snow and feeling warm and relaxed was a great way to unwind after long walks, GoApe or any of the many activities in the area. We would also recommend the Black Bull and community run shop in Gartmore, as well as the amazing butchers in Aberfoyle. We would definitely come back to Back Borland Cottages!

8 of my family had an amazing long weekend in this fabulous home. It is extremely spacious and plenty of privacy for multiple couples sharing. Lovely cottage - very well set up and great hot tub
Lovely cottage we would've liked to stay longer, the hot tub and pool were a huge hit with the kids and Rosie and Dave were very helpful. The set up was great for our large extended family, with plenty of room. The only issue was the poor condition of the track up there - lots of potholes and sharp stones, (we sustained 2 punctures) but we had a lot of rain so the track might not always be so bad.

Bliss!
My husband and I spent 4 nights at The Byre with the intention being to hunker down, enjoy some peace and quiet, and make use of the pool and hot tub. We enjoyed every minute. We didn't go exploring the area but it was certainly beautiful on the drive there, and there are many outdoorsy activities nearby if that's what you want to do. Rosie met us when we arrived and gave us a quick tour, a run down of the very reasonable house rules, and then a demo of how to work the pool and hot tub. The accommodation was lovely and clean, comfortable and warm. The kitchen was really well equipped (and spotless) which is a huge bonus if, like us, you plan to just cook for yourselves rather than go out to eat. We use the wood burning stove every day, and it was great to be able to rotate it depending on where we were sat. There were no guests at Rosie's other property so we had use of the pool and hot tub as much as we wanted really, from 9am to 9pm. Our days tended to be swim in the morning, relax by the wood burning stove in the afternoon, then enjoy the hot tub in the evening. Whilst the night air was really pretty nippy for heading out in our swimwear, it meant clear skies and the most amazing star gazing... don't think I've ever seen the sky at night so beautiful. Shooting stars and all! The track up to the property is as described. We were in a regular estate car and managed perfectly fine just by taking it slow and steady. It certainly wouldn't put us off going back, which is precisely what we are planning to do. Off to check availability for another stay... :)

Perfect peace
The silence at night was pure heaven, haven't slept so peacefully in years, the Byre was ideal for six adults with all having their own space. The thing that loses the full five stars is the road in,4x4 advisable. Loved the log burner and hot tub regardless of weather, scenery up the glen ,well you really have to see it. Hosts always to hand and helpful , perfect. John. Wishaw

Thanks for the really positive review, John. We're well aware of the issues with the track, which is why we always take care to mention it clearly in all our advertising. We're glad you enjoyed the upside of being up a track, though, which is the remarkable peace and quiet, and lack of light polution. Our idea of heaven too!

Great central location for seeing beautiful Scotland.
Our family (7 adults) used the cottage for 8 days as our base camp. We could travel all day then drive down the 1 mile dirt road to rest and relaxation, stars and quiet. It was exactly what we had hoped. Everyone had their own space but then we could come together in the main area and chill, visit or play games. We couldn't have asked for more. Rosie felt more like a host than a manager of the property. We didn't see much of her because of our journeys, but with every request through email, our desires were waiting for us when we returned at the end of the day. I would highly recommend this cottage for you and yours.

Great Stay
We had a great stay over a long weekend at the The Byre Farm Cottage. From arrival to departure Rosie and Dave were there to ask any questions regarding the property and advise on what land you can and can not go on (the surrounding area is someone else's farm land). Rosie showed us how to use the wood burning fire, the pool and the hot tub. We stayed here for a 60th Birthday and we had family come to visit on the Saturday night and they were also impressed with the property. We also had friends staying in the other property and they were so impressed with The Byre they ave booked it to stay in May. It was clean, well stocked with glassware, cutlery, cooking utensils, pots and pans, plates and bowls. The dishwasher proved to be a very useful tool considering there was 7 of us staying. We had taken our dog and she loved being able to get off in the field we were allowed to go in. The hot tub had spectacular views even when it was misty and the pool was good too when it was raining for a swim. There isn't much option for taking a stroll around so we mostly just popped over into the field with the dog but to be honest we weren't there to go walking as it was meant for a relaxing break playing games and watching films. Would recommend this to anyone looking to get away and completely relax. There was no phone signal in the cottage but you could get some over in the field if you needed it. The free WiFi was fab and we all managed to connect to it easily. The road up to the property is very bumpy but once your on it and you know how to drive it then there was no issue. We had cars of all sizes but would agree that it is not suitable for low cars or sports cars of any kind.

Wunderbares Ferienhaus in wunderbarer Umgebung
