The hotel is in the middle of no where. It has a pub attached so it was loud. The staff was great

It was a lovely pub. We went on a Saturday night and they have much until late and unfortunately that made it difficult to sleep. The meals were very good and staff couldn't do any more for us.

There isn't much to like about this hotel. Its far too noisy (from the bar area and the industrial air conditioner outside the drive-through bottle shop) at night as well as early in the morning (music and loud conversations outside my room at 5am). The room had damp carpet. The fridge stopped working and the water was intermittent. In the hotel / bar area, the staff appear to be uninterested in friendly customer service. Overall, not a good experience.

Great ambience and stay at this Hotel. Had a lovely lemon chicken meal. Beautiful spacious room to a large balcony looking out to the Balone river. Clean with good amenities. Staff were helpful and accommodation. Could chuck a smile in now and then but no worries about that they were polite, professional and respectful. Good ambience and environment in the pub itself. I recommend for a stay or visit.

Great outback hotel in St George
We flew to St George to experience a remote town - we were very happy with our choice of destination, and equally happy to choose The Australian Hotel. The rooms were good, the bar was vibrant, the beer was cold, and the river walk just outside the hotel was excellent. My only criticism was the $41 steak, cooked and served in beef country, did not meet our expectations.

Pros - the stunning and historic building, restored and renovated to have more modern rooms. The staff were all exceptionally friendly. Clean and convenient amenities. Great proximity to main street and river. Great menu in the pub. Very atmospheric and lovely Cons - We were in a room opening up onto the beer garden, and we stayed on a Saturday night. It was therefore quite noisy until about 1am, and then again when the morning shift started. This also meant all the smoke from the open fire came straight into our room, despite having the window/door closed and air con on. We were glad it was the end of our trip as we/our luggage became quite smokey, and if we were asthmatic we really would have struggled. Perhaps sealing the window/door, and changing the fire location/adding a chimney would stop the smoke pooling in the rooms above the beer garden? Without this, our stay would have been really good, as the beds were comfortable and we didn't mind the noise so much!

The lady on reception was very helpful upon my arrival because I had some travel issues and she went out of her way to assist. The room was good value for money and the pubs restaurant had reasonably priced food. It’s on the banks of the Balonne River

Beautiful old style rooms, high ceilings, good sized rooms freshly painted. Shared bathroom was older, but spotless and large. Nice and quiet even though we were above the pub. Kitchen facilities were poor, but you can buy all meals in the pub

Very comfortable bed, sensational water pressure in shower. All staff where friendly and welcoming. We had breakfast and dinner and the meal size was generous and food delicious. We will be back!
