Steelhead cabin @ Keystone Kozy

Summary:
Steelhead Cabin @ Keystone Kozy is a wonderfully appointed cabin with close river access to the world famous Kenai River.

The Kenai River is the most popular sport fishing destination in Alaska. Each year there are two runs each of king salmon, coho salmon, sockeye salmon, plus a run of pink salmon every other year. The world record king salmon, which weighed about 44 kg (97 lb), was caught in the Kenai River in 1985. The Kenai is also the home of trophy size rainbow trout and Dolly Varden. Occasionally there will be reports of catching of "Steelhead"(Sea-run Trout). In recent years, the king salmon fishery has been closed or heavily restricted due to low returns of fish. The coho salmon runs occur in early August and early October. The September run is favored by local anglers due to the larger size of the silver salmon. The sockeye salmon runs are in late-June and mid-July-August. Sockeyes are considered the premier salmon for eating, canning, and smoking.

Excellent location in Soldotna, near river access and grocery, restaurant options. Cabins are new, beautifully designed and appointed. Very comfortable and inviting. Great common space with fireplace and wood, barbecues and picnic tables. Host communications outstanding. Will come again with friends and family.

Great winter retreat!
A wonderful cabin tucked away, yet just miles from conveniences. It was perfect for having some family downtime. Sandi was a wonderful and super accommodating host. Thank you Sandi for working with us during the crazy Alaska weather!

Perfect balance of modern and rustic!
For a recent work trip, we decided to try out a local VRBO instead of staying in a hotel, and it was the best decision. From the moment the reservation was made, communication with the contact was prompt, clear, and understandable. Questions were answered quickly, and they were so nice! The physical location of the cabins was just far enough off the beaten path to enjoy quiet, while still within a few miles of food, shopping, and entertainment. The cabin itself was clean and beautiful with all kinds of added touches to make anyone feel welcome (including snacks!). Although the space is smaller because it is a cabin, the height of the ceilings and large windows throughout gave you a sense of wide-open spaces and roominess. Anywhere you sit within the space allows for a stunning view of the surrounding woods and wildlife. We did not get a chance to enjoy the additional amenities offered, because it was a quick business trip; however, we agreed this would not be the last time we stay at the Keystone Kozy Cabins! Would hands down recommend this to anyone.

Enjoyable stay
My husband and I, along with another couple, stayed 3 nights in July 2021. We chose this property because of its location to the Kenai river and because of its ice house. Everyone liked the location because you can walk to the river and it's near the end of the road so it was very quiet. The initial cabin picture that shows when you're looking at places is not the cabin we stayed in (not a problem as they all have a similar look). All the inside pictures are correct. There are a few other cabins on site and across the road that can be rented out. My husband was told if you rent a cabin on the side of the road with the ice house/laundry, then you can fish directly from the property. Everyone had pleasant interactions with the owners and when we had a change in plans for our next stop, Homer, Sandi said she could get us into a different unit if we needed another night, but it wasn't needed. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. It was a clean, comfortable, cozy cabin for the four of us. Tips: The laundry machines take credit cards - $5 wash, $5 dry. There was no detergent available for purchase during our stay, so bring your own. The shower had an Esa brand dispenser for shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in case you don't want to pack your own.

Fishing trip
Great cabin for 2 dads and 2 boys for a fishing trip. Owner's son Nick was great. They brought us some firewood and kindling for a fire pit at the cabin.
